Stolen from FW. State Street Direct currently has Aiwa HT-DV1 Personal DVD Theater System for $179. Click the member price and sign up the newsletter to get extra $10 off. Shipping is just $8 and no tax for the purchase. I don't why SSD sells the system so cheap. This is a new model and Aiwa just launched it in the market in July. Perhaps that's the reason I couldn't find any review for the system. For such a good price, however, I think it is worth a shot.

Someone over there said Fry's has it too for $177. Maybe they're just faster than other online stores in adjusting the price.

WOW.... That cheap?? I did a quick search online and most stores are selling for around $350. Does anybody know why it's soooo cheap? I read a few things about the speakers.... Just the speakers themselves are worth the price of the system.

What about the store? Have you guys had any experience with it?

MAN! This is cheap!!!!! I think I will buy one. I just bought a PS2, thinking... Well.. I'll never find something good and cheap (comparable to PS2). I guess I found one. I'll put the AIWA on the living room and the PS2 on my bedroom.....

Just a small note Aiwa QUALITY is very suspect...... Especially in the CD/DVD drive mechanisms.

I just ordered one, shipping will take about 2 weeks the guy said.
Yea, I have an Aiwa hifi system about 5 years ago and I remember it swallows my CDs quite a lot of times. But with the system this cheap, I think I will take another chance and hope they fixed those problems.

I have an Aiwa compact system which, if you look it up on the net, has numerous cd drive problems. I haven't had any and it's been several years.
Resellerratings 9.12!
With only 1 svideo input, though, I don't know how I'd hook up my Apex (for vcd) and my Directtv at the same time. I also don't see any mention of any extra audio inputs. Anyone know more about this system?

From the looks of it, there are not A/V inputs. The point of the S-video is for pass through so that you can still use the s-vid on a directv receiver, for example. There is also no tuner on this unit. So, for $177 or so, you get a system that is ONLY used for dvd/cd playback.

There is a Tuner on this. From Aiwa's website (regarding this model's FAQ section):

Q: How do I preset my radio stations?

A: All AIWA systems can store a total of 32 stations. Begin by selecting either the AM or FM band. ? Tune in the desired station by pressing the ?? DOWN or UP?? buttons. ? Press the SET button. ? Within four seconds, while the preset number is flashing, press the SET button again to store into the memory. Repeat these steps to preset remaining stations.

That's freaking cheap for a 5.1 system with speakers and amp. I didn't know the price falls this fast.

The FAQ applies to all of their products as far as I can tell. If you go do a "compare", tuner isn't checked off on this one but is on the others.

I bought a Panny Digital Video Camera from them. No problems at all. I tracked the package online; the price was good; and the video camera still works.

The thing that concerns me the most is the 1 S-Video. I think I'll go to a local store and ask about it before buying.

Does anyone know if this machine will play VCDs and SVCDs. If it does, then I'm all over this deal

Well, by reading the FAQ I posted, it does say the word "ALL". I hope they wouldn't put ALL if they didn't mean it......WE'll see though.

How do you get $8.00 shipping? The cheapeast for me was $18 (7 business days). I didn't even enter my address yet, and shipping is set at $18.00. Was there a coupon code that I had to enter?

dammit...wallet too thin to attempt crazy home theater deal... =P plus my parents would be attempting to set it up...bad images going through my head already ;-P

Although, even if the DVD player was garbage, I'd still have my Apex AD-800 progressive scan unit(that can't actually do progressive scan since I don't have any stupid component video cables lol)

Wow, nice price for this system. Never thought AIWA made poor quality stuff. I have a shelf system for years (8 at least, I believe) with not a single problem (while our Sony and Panasonic systems bit the dust) and I use it every day. Reads burned stuff too. Maybe it's just luck

Do you or anyone else know anything about Lasonic products, or specically the Lasonic DVT-3030?

Visually their products look cheaply made, but other than that I have no experience.

I'm new to DVD. Could someone tell me what the tuner would be used for since I gather it isn't used for palyback of the DVD disks?
