Hey everyone,

I recently purchased:

Athlon 1700+
Shuttle AK31 Motherboard
256 Megs Crucial RAM

I tried booting the system with my old Turbo Cool ATX 300 Watt power supply, but to no avail. I looked on AMD's site and saw that that supply is only approved for up to Athlon 800 Mhz.

So, I picked one from the list, the Enhance Electronics ENP-0730, rated for 1900+. Same problem (I think)

--

I've only got the following things connected now:

Processor plugged into motherboard
Power supply plugged into wall
Power supply plugged into motherboard
Processor and motherboard fans plugged into motherboard
Keyboard plugged into motherboard
Power switch and internal speaker plugged into motherboard

I've tried it with RAM and video card.

Same symptoms each time:

I power it up.
Keyboard lights flash, then stop
When video card is plugged in, the monitor light (it's a Sony CPD-500 21" trinitron, woo!) flashes green briefly, then goes back to yellow.
Nothing else.

The processor's heatsink does not get warm at all.

If the processor is removed, the keyboard lights still blink. Not beeping even so.

Any ideas?

---

Before you suggest them:
1. No jumpers have been changed, though the CMOS has been reset
2. The speaker is plugged in correctly, and it was working on the previous system only a week and a half ago.

No solution here but you're not alone. I'm having the same problem with the same hardware. I've asked for help here quite a few times but this seems to be a mystery. In my case it will boot periodically but I can't recreate the situation which causes the failure. Did you get your equipment from NEWEGG?

Try taking out your mobo from your case, it may be grounded, thats what happened to me. I was absolutly sure that it wasnt grounded but I ended up taking the mobo out of the case and bam! It worked!

Have you tried a 'CMOS Clear', maybe something is funky in your bios settings. I needed to do that last night after I was messing around with some settings.

Unplug power wires from mobo
Change jumper J2 from 1-2 to 2-3. for 2-3 seconds (or longer) (It is pretty clearly marked, to the left of the pci slots)
Change jumper back to original
re-attach ps

Good Luck

Heh.. same exact situation here! I just ordered this mobo and Athlon 1800+ cpu's from Newegg.com and guess what? Powers on like normal, no beeps, no video, no post, nothing. The system "sounds" like it should be working, but I get no video. I've tried two different video cards, both of which worked in my Athlon 800 cpu's.

Any idea of wtf is going on? I really don't want to have to wait to order a new goddamn motherboard, but this is VERY disheartening.

Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, try the CMOS clear stuff. My mobo also would not start when I first got it, but the CMOS clear helped.
Also, might want to try moving the ram to a different slot. Also, unplug the fan on the HS and feel it to see if the
processor is still alive. The base should get warm after 10-30 secs. Also, see if the light on the mobo lights up.

In my case sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Is this intermittent behavior a cmos issue?:disgust:

My problem is similar except that if i hit the reset button after the power button problem happens, the computer boots right up.

the weird thing is that i used this computer for a year with no problem - sold it to a friend - all components the same except new cdrw and new HD - problem never happened for me but always happens for him
