ak31 running xp 1700+ thoroughbred..

I just received my xp 1700+... I was in such a hurry that I didn't check to see if my mobo supports it. And unfortunately, it doesnt; however, it does boot into windows and seems to be stable (ie play moh, diable 2, etc..).

The bios doesnt recognize it and when i ran wcpuid, everything looks fine except it doesn't know the cpu type.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of problems I would encounter.

my mobo is an AK31 v3.1...
I also heard that I can turn an AK31 into an AK35GT/R and the AK35GT/R does recognize tbreds... has anyone done this and what are your results?

Really???? I had an ak31 rev.3 with a xp2000 in it overclocked to a xp2100. The board had no problems recognizing it. What bios version are you running? Go to the Shuttle site and dl the last bios release (May of last year as I recall) and flash the bios if you haven't done so. I liked that board even though it wasn't that highly regarded around here..... sold it to someone who immediately fried it along with the xp2000 in setup.

I still have my AK31 w/xp2000 and have had no problems. The cpu is recognized correctly.

it's not the processor speed that's the problem, its the thoroughbred core.

have you flashed the most recent BIOS?

.18 micron chips are fine but the .13 microns are not being recognized. According the Shuttle site, the ak31 is not compatible with the .13 micron chips.

I knew of this before asking the questions.. I am just curious if there will be unforseen problems.

Oh really? Wow, thanks for the link. I'm so behind the times... didn't even know there were two different fabs for the same chip out there.

I have the AK31 v3.1 running an 1800+ @ 1650 with no issues. Guess it's not .13 micron.

There shouldn't be any unforseen problems. I have the Shuttle AK31a (rev. 3.1) and I'm running an XP1800 Thoroughbred @ XP2100 speeds. No problems at all and the CPU gets properly recognized.
