The elephant the room is that the paper is called "The Democrat-Reporter." Awkward...

Why is that awkward and why would anyone care what the name is?

uh, no it isn't. Two pretty clear options:

--It is either a paper that believes its mission is to report on them crafty, evil democrats
or
--it exists from the time when 'ol Goodloe was a proud card-carrying pre-civil rights democrat of the Wallace, Thurmond, Helms, etc era where the only good black man was the one hanging at the end of the rope, and such sworn, Unapologetic racists fled when the party changed to an egalitarian platform, and these Dixiecrats invaded the republican party, turning it into the big tent Racist Party of today. So, it's just the original name which this fella is obviously proud to carry along, because it reminds him of them good ol times when he had more racist lynching friends to party with. Why didn't they change it in all this time? Hell if I know. Why did it take MS some ~130 years to ratify the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery? Hell if I know--something about racist deep-southerners just can't stop holding onto the glorious past when god only loved the white man.
