It's Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve...

Country is going to hell. Ruled by a bunch of gosh damn pansies.

If you want to live in a theocracy there are several fine middle eastern countries you might consider living in.

Apparently states rights are more important then civil rights.

The problem is that allowing marriage is a poor proxy for the full range of civil rights that should be enjoyed by gays generally. Allowed the "right" to be married is sorta cold comfort when you can face housing discrimination for being gay in the majority of U.S. states, for example.

Since we used to enjoy none of those rights marriage is a solid step in the right direction. Once gay marriage is legal nationwide the advocacy groups will surely be turning their full attentions on employment and housing discrimination.

In other news Alabama has a new state motto:

Discrimination now, discrimination tomorrow, discrimination forever!

Just wondering out loud........

All of this is what happens when you use terror to induce control over your children, a backward, bigoted, religiously rotten to the core culture of frightened sheep who believe that any deviation from the norm of the flock will bring down hellfire and damnation, little craven monsters who will turn on their neighbors in panic attacks of mass psychosis and burn them to death as witches. These are the sick we harbor among us who never experienced Gods love. These are they who have become what they fear, the creepy crawly things that hide in the dark, those whose belief in damnation have made it real.

Poor sick things. As their world dies around them to the light, they release all that pain.

And so it has always been, every step up the ladder we take.

So then just for clarification, I assume you think Alabama's elective six year terms for their SSC judges is a bad thing, and that having the USSC justices being appointed for life by a sitting president is a good thing?

Yes and No.

No judges, anywhere, should ever be elected.

I think SCOTUS appointees should have 12-16 year term limits.

Not much, really. The occurrence of homosexuality in all of nature has remained flat for thousands of years.

what is your point?

What employment discrimination? I don't know anything about the sex lives of any of my coworkers. I wouldn't know they're gay unless they went around talking about it, which is something you generally don't do at work.

Where are these offices where people talk about their sex lives? Be specific. I want addresses and phone numbers.

do you not have coworkers that chat about their spouses or kids at work? that's pretty normal water-cooler conversation kinda stuff.

If, through no fault of their own, your supervisor discovered that you were gay in many states it would be legal for them to terminate you on the thinnest of pretexts. This can and does happen.

Also not talking about personal relationships in a workplace environment is akin to willing the sun not to rise.

We don't talk around the water cooler. We actually do work around here. I only assume some of them are married because they have rings on their fingers, but even that could be misdirection. There's nothing stopping a single person or a gay person from wearing a ring.

is it like a fully-staffed-by-autistics kinda office?

purely through casual conversation, even sometimes work related (ie: "sorry, going to be in a little late tomorrow, have to drop my wife off at the airport"), I can tell you which of my coworkers are married and have kids.

it's very weird and abnormal for you to have literally zero personal conversation at work.

Yep. Professional engineers. The topic of who we sleep with on weekends never seems to come up.

Being married and having kids are not reliable indicators of sexuality. Michelle Bachmann's husband is married, and he's the gayest man on the planet. Elton John and Little Richard were both married to women.

You realize that conservatives never give a fuck about what is true or not they only care about their ignorant cesspool of hate and opinion.

In practical terms, all Unions should be treated equal.

However, any Judge that tells the Feds to piss off wins points with me. It's a state's rights thing, you wouldn't understand.

Conservative authoritarians only invoke states rights when they can't impose their brand of oppression at the national level. It's actually about limiting some people's rights rather than expanding them. It's the basis for 100 years of Jim Crow & ongoing suppression of Unions.

Exceptions are rare, like state level cannabis legalization. They're appalled at how a perfectly good lynching rope can be turned into macrame'.

Hopefully some good can come out of this nonsense, like Roy Moore getting removed (again) and disbarred.

Yes, the Republican party has a lot of Neocons like Bush who are fully devout to a big and powerful federal government. They fit the bill as you describe. Libertarians however, 1: Support people having equal rights, 2: Want the States to have more authority.

The idea of a state supreme court making waves is amusing.

You're equally amusing, in a twisted sort of way. States should have more authority to do what, exactly? What freedoms do Libertopians suppose that State govt will grant in addition to those enjoyed under federal law?

You know, other than the freedom to exercise voter suppression, impose outrageous prison terms, charge usurious interest, invoke regressive taxation, pollute the environment?

I could go on about Rand Paul's assertion that businesses should be able to discriminate on the basis of race but that's pointless when addressing a True Believer.
