Alan Wake - PC "up in the air"??!

Apparently Sam Lake from REMEDY has spoken and said that the PC version for ALAN WAKE is "up in the air".
Source: EDGE
http://www.edge-online.com/new...up-in-the-air%E2%80%9D

They must be smoking some good stuff up there in the north.
First they made some deal with M$ to make it VISTA exclusive, then they were happy to do propaganda for Intel's brand new QuadCores in 2006. They told everyone that this would be the game that would fully utilise your Q6600. I bet there were quite a few gamers that jumped on the C2Q bandwagon early because of this.
And now it seems M$ has forked over more money so that the PC version might get scrapped.
Seems like REMEDY are a bunch of greedy little suckas.

Seriously W-T-F?

So a game that started on PC and got hijacked be M$ is now their bitch to sell more red-rings-of-death.
When will console gamers wake up and stop forking over 59+$ for new games so that we can all go back to the pre-greed days of having a good game on every good platform?
M$ PC gaming initative my ass. GameForWindows is nothing more than a mole to undermine PC gaming once and for all.

If you want to tell them how smelly their BS is:

Damn, I was gonna post this!

Anyway, it's all good. If they need time to polish up the 360 version, that's good. I don't like games ending up like shit because it was rushed.

Isn't that the story of Halo?

Goes perfectly with this thread:

#1 reason for the decline of PC gaming?? MICROSOFT!! How ironic is that (although considering their xbox business...it's not very surprising)?

I really hope Alan Wake does come out for PC as well. I don't have an Xbox so they definitely won't get any money from me if there's no PC version.

Yeah as long as its a good game im not too fussed, ive diversified over the past few years from a PC gamer to just a gamer. If its good i might get it for the 360.

Yep. That's the direction the big publishers/game companies are headed nowadays. It's all about the consoles.

I give it a few more years when the current gen consoles are extremely outdated, and then we might see the mainstream PC game scene make a comeback. I'm talking about FPS, action games, etc.. Not so much niche games like RTS and some RPG's, since those will always be better and sell better on PC's.

Either way it goes, it's kind of disappointing but not all that unheard of considering the same thing happened back in the NES, SNES, Genesis days. Anyone remember PC gaming the way it existed back then? I'm talking about PC side scrollers from Apogee and companies like that, that were vastly different from the mario style or beat em' up side scrollers on the consoles.

IMO, the same distinction is happening nowadays, the genre's are just more specific. I mean, we haven't seen a decent RTS or MMO show up on the consoles yet. And most old school style RPG's (which there are a lot still being developed) will never appeal to the console crowd.

PC gaming will always exist and grow in one way or another, but when it comes to big budget games publishers are going to focus on where the money's at. And lets face it, right now the big bucks are in dumbed down console action games and casual wii "swing the stick" games.

If PC gaming ever does die (which it won't thanks to the companies that make their money off of it), bye bye Microsoft.

I'm pretty sure most of Microsoft's Windows sales don't come from gamers so they'll be fine as well.

No, I'm talking about nvidia, amd, intel, companies that make: mobos, cases, psu's, ram, cpu coolers, etc. Not many people would buy all those companies' products anymore if PC gaming died. Intel would basically produce very few Extreme products, video cards wouldn't exist except for the professional market. All PSU's would be made at <400w and would be made of cheap components. Do you see what I'm saying? These companies would cease to exist if PC gaming died.

Very true...very shortsighted of me not to see that. All those companies should put some pressure on the game studios to not forget about the PC platform.

You don't have to make a Ferrari to compete in the automotive industry. A company could live just fine making low to mid end products only. I'm pretty sure most of the companies that make enthusiast products get most of their money from the much cheaper products they also produce anyway.

I'd think MS would suffer cause a lot of ppl have windows only to play games. Otherwise they switch to mac/linux

Yeah.. I would jump over to Linux in a heartbeat if developers stopped making games for PCs. I don't see this happening though. Why pay for all the bloat when you could get a streamlined OS for free?

That has nothing to do with Microsoft... and these companies would not cease to exist because they make much more money out of low-end products than they do out of flagship, NVIDIA and ATI compete in the high-end for status/power and advertisement but the real revenue comes from the sale of low end or mid range parts.

Also, games on PC won't ever disappear because it's an open platform, nothing can stop you from making games and enthusiasts buy hardware even if there aren't any new games, that's why they are called "hardware enthusiasts", hell I should know, I enjoy buying new video cards even if I really have nothing to play.

I don't see what's so great about this game. Years ago we saw some screen shots that didn't explain anything they just looked pretty and ever since people have been talking it up as some awesome game- well I haven't actually seen *anything* substantial about this so for the moment it's in the 'meh' pile.

well if WAKE has just a tiny bit of the TWIN PEAKS atmosphere. You know: Evil in the woods, forested mountains, always a little rainy, nice but totally crazy townsfolk, mysteries aplenty it would be the most atmospheric game ever.

Regarding M$: Gaming is pretty much the only thing that makes Winblows essential for most consumers. If Google Chrome OS or Linux would be compatible with DirectX gaming, lots of people would jump ship in a heartbeat. Guess this is another case where one division of a company is actively sabotaging the works of another. (Xbox division -> OS division)

I would do exactly the same. If PC gaming died, I wouldn't even look back - it'd be Linux all the way.

I really hope AW does come out for the PC.. I recently picked up a PS3 and have really enjoyed console gaming, but I just don't want to have to pick up an Xbox as well. AW is the only Xbox exclusive title I was looking forward to.

I was prepared to read, understand and even accept your opinionated rant, till your first instance of "M$".

I have now written you off as a crazy anti-console PC fanboy.

Edit: Just to spite you, I hope AW is canceled for PC.

What difference does the "$" make ?
- there are a lot of people who find MS an overbearing monopolistic company who has kept PC gaming in the dark ages for too long while they play politics
- you might even be written off as a MS fan boy

i hope ALL Xbox 360s fail this year due to hidden defects
:Q

.. only to spite you, of course .. and to give a nice boost to PC gaming

seriously, i think DX11 will help put PC gaming (graphics way) above the consoles again .. next year. MS really screwed PC gaming with DX10 being "Vista only"

That page is about 5 weeks old.

When asked if the game was still coming to PC, he said that "once we're done with the 360 version we'll evaluate the situation and see what makes sense."

Basically what they are saying is that after they finish the 360 version if the pc gaming market is poor they are not going to bother with a pc version.
