Spinoff, why do some people feel the need to set their alarm clock a half hour to and hour ahead when they know exactly what time it is? Do you trick your brain?

I don't know about an 30-60 minutes, but I understand the logic of <10 minutes ahead. Do people really do >30 minutes?

1. Set it randomly so you don't know how far ahead it is.
2. When you're half asleep it isn't as easy to do math.

Doesn't matter what time I set my alarm to. I manage to wake up just 2 mins before the freakin thing goes off which pisses me off because I could've gotten another 2 mins of sleep!

My alarm clock has been set 30 minutes ahead of actual time for as long as I can remember. Started doing that many years ago but I began with just 10 minutes so I would always be 10 minutes ahead of time in the morning. At some point, it increased to 30 minutes. But I still get up at the same time now that I always did.

Just an odd quirk for me that I really can't explain but won't change.

Lately i have been waking up before the alarm by like 5 minutes which is pretty cool...I know i wll get up anytime I want to without an alarm. I still use one tho.

I am kinda extreame in my alarm clock settings.

Lets say I need to get up at 10.

I set an alarm usually for 8 or something(this is the alarm that I wish I would get up for). If i dont have something to do or catn find the energy to get up to go for a run i roll over
I then set an alarm for 8:45 or something....This is a second attempt
and i always have a third alarm for like 9:30 or something which is right near the time i need to get up just in case.

One of the greatest feelings in the world is waking up in a nice big comfy bed and rolling back over...thats why i dont mind the 3 alarms.

It's all psychological for me. I used to have to get up at 5:45 to go to work every day, and I had no problem doing it. I didn't ever hit the snooze button, because my wife would have killed me. Now I work someplace where they don't care when I come in as long as I put my hours in and get my work done, so I don't get up when my alarm first goes off because I know I don't really HAVE to get up then.

I used to do that... but stopped because I got used to it being X min fast and would account for it.... defeating the purpose.

I recently started again... not for myself.. but for my wife, since she never gets up when she's supposed to.

I secretly pushed the time up 15 min... she hasn't caught on yet.... she just thinks she's doing better at her morning timing. lol

I set my alarm clock for the correct time plus about 5 minutes to make up for any inaccuracy because I'd rather have a few extra minutes then have less time then I need & be late. I also set two alarms ... the first is AM news radio & goes off 1/2 hour before I need to get up & the second is a buzzer for the exact time in case I nod off.

In years past, I did it because when I wake up, I'll be lucky if I can identify numbers and remember what they mean. Once I remember where I am and why an electronic device is waking me up, then maybe I can deal with what time it might actually be. But hopefully the gut reaction of "Oh god I'm late" is enough to get me out of bed.

I eventually wised up to that tactic, and now that I'm in college, I don't seem to sleep as well so I wake up more quickly.
I set my alarm for 6:48am, and get up anywhere between then and 7:00am. 6:48am came about as part of negotiations with my roommate last semester over what time to get up. He was the sort who could just pop right out of bed in the morning. If I tried that, I'd probably fall right over from disorientation.

those are the snoozers

i set it when i need to get up and i get up, no snooze
I discovered that I can turn off my alarm clock in my sleep. Sometimes it's worked its way into my dreams too. The best one I remember was when someone starting doing something horrible to a violin, which was just my alarm clock.
I have yet to throw my alarm clock or damage it, which I find surprising. I guess I don't want to risk damaging anything else in the room, and I know that I'd just have to buy another one. Sometimes I do have decent reasoning when I'm asleep - my mom told me that when I was little, I once fell out of bed. I stood up, mumbled, "That was dumb," got back in bed and was asleep immediately.
