But it doesn't have the connectors on it...that's why I was wondering. It's a perfect rectangle, with nothing to actually go into the PCI slot. Isn't that weird?

It';s not a pci tuner... might mount in the monitor somehow or something. If you look at the pic of the lcd back, you can see the spots where the coax and vid input from the card would down through holes. The card must be optional

Thanks! Great review, by the way, if anyone wants to read it. It's of the model below, but it has nothing but good things to say

cool! Did you get the L-17ATD or the L-17AT? The ATD is the model higher up - I didn't see one higher than that though so I was wondering what the tuner would be for if there were no models above it?

The ATD is the one that's being sold at NewEgg, but the links are to reviews for the model below since they haven't reviewed this model yet. Just wanted to know which one you bought

I actually got the asd model...tv tuner wasnt that important to me...tuner cards are easy to come by so I couldnt justify the extra money...however I didnt realize that the asd model doesnt have any audio inputs....but the monitor only has clock radio speakers so thats not too big of a deal anyways....btw...picture is awesome for this price

edit: and yes the tuner does go in the back of the moniter...its actually pretty sleak how they have it set up

so has anybody bought the atd moddel that they are selling. I need a lcd monitor that is a stand alone tv also (without using a pci tv tuner card).

was looking at comparable models from cornea (around 500-550) and sampo (600 at costco, great return policy)

i wouldnt trust lanaddict. THat lcd they reviewed had 40ms pixel response and he said there was no ghosting at all. Just wanted to suck up to albatron. That lcd has a low 350:1 contrast ratio. Id opt for the one made by cornea systems tv tuner 17" lcd. Get the new 16ms response 17" planar lcd. I picked one up last week from dell.com for $462 shipped and its amazing no ghosting and its the latest technology.

Looks to me the TV card is not a PCI card. Seems it will fit in the back of the monitor, with a coax port and line-out port. It is very good price for a 17' LCD with a TV toner. I paid $490 for a Cornea CT1702 two month ago. Compare to this one, the cornea has S-video, and component -input, which this one does not have. The remote of the albatron looks cooler, but I think I am more comfortable with the cornea remote. I think it is all boil down the image quality. I am quite happy with the Cornea unit. Haven't had a albatron to compare. It is really a great price. Glad I don't have to make more decision.

I just checked Dell's site for the Planar. It doesn't have DVI so I think that's a major turn-off for me. Do you have a DVI card or just a regular one?
is 350:1 really that bad for contrast? What else should I know about this monitor?

Contrast ratio While largely irrelevant for CRTs, contrast ratio is an important spec for LCDs since the range from lightest to darkest has immediate bearing on LCD image quality. Manufacturers claim LCD contrast ratios ranging from 200-to-1 to 400-to-1, but that ratio is calculated in too many different ways to make any meaningful comparison. Take this specification with a large grain of salt.

CNet Guide to Buying LCDs

What's the validity of that statement?

I wouldnt trust that cnet that much its mostly compiled of noobs that think they know what they are talking about. Or the cornea here is very good http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sku=C196-1012

Thanks! I just ordered this Albatron though and it's a bit cheaper. I'm not a hardcore gamer anyways
Will let everyone know how it is when I get it...

Just got home on Spring Break to see my beautiful monitor

Surprised to see NewEgg raised the price hehe

The AT effect? Nah..

I saw a 15" LCD TV in the Circuit City weekly ad for $600 and I was like man my LCD would sell for $800! Could make a lot of money off this thing!

Just thought I'd let everyone know it's working great...no dead pixels, no nothing. The speakers are stupid but they're better than my laptop speakers so I'm using it while I'm home until I get back to school to hook it up on DVI - I can't wait!!!

hi...

i was just wondering if ppl who ordered this and have recieved it have any additional comments. i am looking to buy a lcd today and i am either going to go with this one or the dell 1702FP. the dell one can be had for $459.10 today only with the automatic 10% off and a 35 off 300 that expires today. not the best price i think but i do need a lcd within the next two weeks.

the tv aspect is more of a bonus thing. so if the quality is relatively equal i would like to go with the albatron. just not sure how much "better quality" the dell one is.

thanks to those who can respond.

the response time is kinda high (40ms), I got the Cornea CT1702T for a little more, very pleased with it and it has all the features you want.
