Should I buy the albatron for $135 or the Gigabyte for $117? There's also the silver Albatron (same board) for 2 dollars more... Decisions decisions...

Both are great boards and I have experience with both of them.

Get the albatron if you want to push the FSB on an overclock.

Get the Gigabyte if you have a thing for alot of harddrives in your system.

Otherwise pick em.

Check pricewatch you can get the 8PE667 Ultra for $96.

And you can get the 845PEV Pro board for $85 from newegg. It just doesn't have the SATA connectors.

I want to go with the Albatron, but the PX845GE looks like it might be cheaper than the PX845PE.

Are there any benefits or downsides to having the onboard graphics?

I don't plan to use it, but I seem to recall that the older 845G boards had a little edge over the 845E boards. Is this still true?

If I turn off the onboard video, then it should be the same as the PX845PE, correct?

Thanks in advance.

I would go with the Albatron PE chipset board over the older 845G chipset.

The PE has a 2.66 memory multiplier in bios. That means if you can get your CPU to 150FSB you can run DDR400.

Not sure if the 845g has this option, I doubt it does though.

No, the GE is the PE with onboard video.

So the PX845GE should have the same performance as the PX845PE if I just turn off the video, right?

The GE should be the older 845g chipset.

The PE chipset is newer.

The performance will not differ by much if anything in real world use.

If you can get a new GE board for like $50 then it is worth it, but if you are only talking $10 or $20, go with the PE board.

I do belive the PE and the GE are the same chipsets, the GE just includes video. A few sites have tested both models from a manufacture and noted no performance differences. I belive the E sufix denotes among other things, Hyper Threading support and official DDR 333 support. The 845G (no E) won't officialy support this but is can be made to work.
