Alcatel 1000 ADSL modem

I've been on 384k/128k ADSL with a Alcatel 1000 ADSL modem for the last 4 years. I just upgraded my service to 768k/256k service. SBC upgraded my service on 8/11 but when I run the speed test at DSLReports.com, I am only getting 1192k/129k. I called SBC and the technician said that my modem may not be able to handle the 256k upload speed but is not entirely certain since my modem is fairly old and he couldn't find any documentation on it. I know it's an old modem but I can't seem to find the specs of this modem anywhere. Does anyone know or know where I can find the upload/download specs of this modem? Thanks in advance.

I used to have that modem on Bellsouth 1500/768 ADSL, so it does work with higher speeds. I have a question. When you got DSL, did a technician come and filter your wiring at the box, or did you have to install filters?

I was on the design team for the Alcatel 1000, the aDSL spec at the time called for 6 meg down and 1 meg up. I demonstrated the unit performing better than the spec in both down and up. Most DSL Modems can do 8 meg down and 1 meg up now.

The ISP's lock the ports on the DSLAM boxes that generate the DSL signal at 1.5 down and 256K up. Then you have to figure in some protocol overhead that you will not see that maximum amount.

Many ISP's are now starting to bump the download speeds up to 3 meg down, at a higher price of course.

I have seen a business on the same DSL Network I am on run at 6 meg down.

There was one night where they must have been working on the DSLAM box I am on as I saw DL speeds as high as 5 meg.

Edit: Also those Onlines Test are optimized for Download only.

Run a upload test using FTP to get a true test of your upload speed, I am sure it is fine and in spec.

I'm algo using this modem, although at only 128Kbps upload...
