I second Daemon tools, great FREE app. No toolbars needed, enough crap on my system.

Daemon Tools comes with "Save Now" toolbar /adware that installs itself onto your system during a Daemon Tools install. You can remove the alc toolbar easily via add/remove programs, you do not need the toolbar to use alc 52%, just like you do not need Save Now to use Daemon Tools.

This is great! Thanks OP. Installed and works really well. McAfee caught the IE toolbar trying to install and I told it not to allow it to change the registry, so that took care of it for me. Gotta love McAfee.

Anyways, thanks again.

I'll have to install and see how it handles all the games. With 6 SATA drives in RAID 5, I have over a TB of space, but only 1 optical drive. If it will mount 2142, dungeon seige, BF2, and a handful of others, this is an ideal solution.

Pulling games off the librarry shelf to play is a pain.

Thanks OP

I must be even more forgetful than I thought! Hasn't Alc52% -always- been free?

Over many years, I've twice tried it on my computer -- and later removed it do to apparent problems [too long ago; can't recall details]. From the raucous enthusiasm to this post, I presume any issues are solved.

These days I use MS's own vCD s/w: http://download.microsoft.com/download/...efa2/winxpvirtualcdcontrolpanel_21.exe

None of this is to say Alc52% isn't better/more-useful/liver-destroying.

Nifty program but I can never get these products to work with the programs that need CDs - mostly games. Almost no current games will work with this.

I've only tried it with Oblivion. I'll have to try FarCry, BF2 etc. to make sure they still work.

I installed it last night, but I see no toolbar in IE or Firefox and nothing in add/remove programs to remove it.

yeah can someone comment on what the IE toolbar is about, how intrusive/spyware, and whether it can be removed and have alcohol still work?

Yes, remove "Alc Toolbar" via add/remove programs and it is gone, Kaspersky, spybot, adware, and a(squared) do not find anything (with the latest defs), the add/remove programs gets rid of it. Alc 52% does not need it to work, already tested it on my test machine, about to run a scan with Windows Defender and Hijackthis just to make sure, but I think that add/remove programs gets rid of this toolbar and alc 52% is running great:thumbsup:

does alcohol 52% allow for the creation of cd/dvd images? if so, im in, because Dtools doesn't do image creation, only virtual drive emulation

Daemon Tools does have right-click integration, but you have to download a tool for it.... I forget what it's called, but I always find it on the DT homepage somewhere.

If anyone knows of a way to mount RAR compressed images, let me know! Right now I have a folder on my desktop called "Images" where I extract all the images I'm currently using. Then I just open that folder and mount an image. It works, but I'd like an easier way to access the hundreds of images I have on my file server.

This is my context menu registry code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.Index.cue\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools]
@="&Mount in Device 0"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.Index.cue\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\DAEMON Tools\\daemon.exe\" -mount 0,\"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.Index.mds\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools]
@="&Mount in Device 0"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.Index.mds\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\DAEMON Tools\\daemon.exe\" -mount 0,\"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.iso\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools]
@="&Mount in Device 0"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.iso\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\DAEMON Tools\\daemon.exe\" -mount 0,\"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.nrg\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools]
@="&Mount in Device 0"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.nrg\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\DAEMON Tools\\daemon.exe\" -mount 0,\"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.img\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools]
@="&Mount in Device 0"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Image.img\shell\Mount with Daemon Tools\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\DAEMON Tools\\daemon.exe\" -mount 0,\"%1\""

But, I've set up my environment so all my image files are of class "Image.[something]", so you'd have to update it accordingly. It was a little work at 1st, but now it works fantastically.

If anybody wants, I can send him the registry files I use to make all my image files of uniform type.
