I have created several images from my games. The DVD's wwork fine, but cd's fail. I found a turtorial for making mini images. It says to cancel after x errors (I think it's 6). Do NOT delete the partial files. The partial file will work for the image well enough to trick the game that te cd is in teh drive.

Good luck.

8GB or so out of 300+GB?

or for me, 8GB or so out of 1.2TB

I second Daemon tools, great FREE app. No toolbars needed, enough crap on my system.

Daemon Tools comes with "Save Now" toolbar /adware that installs itself onto your system during a Daemon Tools install. You can remove the alc toolbar easily via add/remove programs, you do not need the toolbar to use alc 52%, just like you do not need Save Now to use Daemon Tools.

is this a recent thing? i don't notice a "save now" tool bar on my daemon tool system?
*edit, guess i might have unchecked it during install or something.

Aye, if only comes with the latest version of DT, 4.X. If you unchecked it during the install, you wont have it.

The latest version of DAEMON Tools (4.08) is bundled with SaveNow, a spyware/adware product of WhenU. Although the spyware/adware can be deselected during installation, this is not made clear to the user as it masquerades as "Demon Tools Search Bar". The WhenU web site describes this as a "SearchBar interface and new user enhancements, designed to maximize your online and desktop experiences" which is unclear.

The setup program does not warn this is optional, nor that it is spyware/adware. Users downloading Daemon should exercise caution, and after the installation run an adware scanner such as LavaSoft AdAware. Allegedly if installed unawares the Spyware/Adware can be deleted using the Control Panel.

You probably didn't rip the DVD properly. You need to know the copy protection used and an appropriate ripper (like Alcohol 120%).

I've been a long time user of both Alc 120 and 52. I believe that the *only* difference between the two is the burning ability of 120. So talking about using 120 to rip when 58 won't is imho nonsense. They have the same ripping/emulation abilities. That's why this is so hot.

Anyone know how to mount NWN2 or BF2?

MDS file created with Alc 120% mounts up fine

I just this morning mounted the .MDS file for BF2. The game is running fine from my HDD. When Alcohol started making the image, I saw a lot of error messages but let it go on. I was kind of surprized when it did work. It also took a long time for the first 5% or so to go to the image file. I think it is protected with Safedisk 4.

I use virtual clonedrive. Works for me even on a machine with a kernel debugger which is something that daemon tools does not support.

Thanks OP, I have tried Damen or what ever the other one is for my 6 year old for he keep ruining his disks and it worked on less then half his games, so far this has worked on all the ones it didn't work on. Hes going to be happy when he gets home from school and find his computer loaded with games again
Hated to take some away but if hes going to scratch them up and not take care of them I hate to be throwing money away. This way he gets them back, I dont have to take them away, and he is happy.
I am so glad this is working out.

For what its worth, here's a heads-up.

After installing Alcohol 52% I started having problems with my browser (Firefox 1.x). Some time later, I upgraded FF to 2.0. During installation I got a note that Alcohol 52% toolbar was incompatible with FF 2.0 and it would be disabled.

Since that point, Firefox has worked just fine.

The errors are a SafeDISC feature. You can grab premade miniimages from gamecopyworld.com

Use Add/Remove programs to get rid of that toolbar crap.

Switching from Daemon Tools to Alcohol, since Alcohol has better shell integration (better mounting interface and single icon handler - I don't have to figure out which icon goes for which file). Note: the ImgBurn stuff is optional, I just like it, but remove that stuff from the code if you don't have it.

Here are my new registry scripts:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ImageFile]
@="Image File"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ImageFile\DefaultIcon]
@="%1"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ImageFile\Shell\Burn using ImgBurn]
@="&Burn using ImgBurn"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ImageFile\Shell\Burn using ImgBurn\Command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\discs\\ImgBurn\\ImgBurn.exe\" /SOURCE \"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ImageFile\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ImageFile\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ImageFile\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\AlcoholShellEx]
@="{32020A01-506E-484D-A2A8-BE3CF17601C3}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ImageFile\ShellEx\IconHandler]
@="{32020A01-506E-484D-A2A8-BE3CF17601C3}"

and

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.iso]
@="ImageFile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.img]
@="ImageFile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mds]
@="ImageFile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nrg]
@="ImageFile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.cue]
@="ImageFile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdf]
