Uses the same Duplex SPTD drivers as Daemon tools. Alc allows 6 virtual drives, Daemon only 4. Both have the emulation features, Alc has a better UI IMO, one can also mount images via right clicking on the image. Also, one can make his own CD / DVD images with Alc 52% (another advantage over Daemon Tools, DT can only mount images, not make them like Alc 52%).

There are no limitations on this version, other than the ability to create only 6 virtual drives. Our retail version still supports 31 virtual drives.

Remember you can not run Alcohol 52% if you have Alcohol 120% installed on the same drive.

This version of Alcohol 52% is for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only. The license is provided personally to you and for that reason it does not allow you to make any duplicate (copy) to be sold, borrowed, assigned, leased or transferred.

Emulation software allowing users to play CDs DVDs without the need for the physical disc. Notebook users and PC Game players would benifit the most from Alcohol 52% Supports 25 plus languages Can handle up to 6 virtual CD DVD-ROM drives, all at once. The reading speed of a virtual CD-ROM is 200X.

This means you can play a CD from the virtual CD-ROM with 200X reading speed. Supports normal CD DVD and CD RAW sub-channel reading methods: RAW reading method enables to emulate all CDs.

CD formats supported: CD-DA, CD+G, CD-ROM, CD-XA, Video CD, Photo CD, Mixed Mode, Multi-session CD DVD formats supported: DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio Support for all current (ATAPI SCSI) drives: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW Full support for IEEE-1394 (Firewire) and USB protocols.

Winner of the 2006 Epsilon Award at the sixth annual European SharewareConference

You can either uncheck the option to install the toolbar during the install or remove the Alc Toolbar easily via add/remove programs once you have installed alc 52%, you do not need the toolbar to use Alc 52%!, just like Daemon Tools comes with "Save Now Adware" this program comes with a toolbar, but you do not have to install it, just uncheck the toolbar during installation. I scanned my test machine with the latest versions and defs of Adaware, Windows Defender, Spybot, aSquared, AntiVir and Kaspersky and found nothing.

NOTE: Install the latest DuplexSecure SPTD before installing Alc 52% so you can be running the absolute latest (nonbeta) release of the driver. Note, DaemonTool users and alcohol users can upgrade to this latest version of SPTD as well.

This is definitely a hot deal! I actually own Alcohol 52%, and have for years. I use it to make images of my CDs (mainly my kids games) and then use DaemonScript to make a shortcut that will mount the image and run the program all in one. I've used this and DaemonTools and this is more user-friendly. The company upgrades the product relatively often, the software does what it says.

If you've ever suffered from slow CD reading, or popping out CDs to put in the next one for a game, or had a child destroy a CD, this is a solution for all of these problems.

Alcohol 120% burns CD's also. Alcohol 52% does not it only mounts and makes images.

Then uncheck it during a custom install and dont install it, same thing as avoiding the spyware in Daemon tools by unchecking the Save Now bar.

They are pretty much the same (they both use Duplex's SPTD ). Alcohol 52% allows you to mount 6 virtual drives (Daemon tools only does 4). Both can do the copy protection emulation, of course there is a UI change, Alc does not use a tray icon, you fire the application up when you want to mount or unmount something (or just right click to mount your images). Then, you shut the program down and you use your mounted virtual drive. Takes up almost no system resources and you can make your onw images with Alc 52% (daemon tools just lets you mount them).

Alcohol also has shell integration so you can just right click the virtual drive from My Computer and mount the image that way.

Cool deal but a lot of games have image software blacklisted so making images of your games does not always help anymore.

Plus a lot of games are finally coming on DVDs. No way I'd make an image of that and leave it sitting on my HDD taking up so much space.

With some users having up to a terabyte or more of storage these days, it's not at all that farfetched.

Alc uses no RAM as far as I can tell (from looking at process viewer). It only uses ram when you mount / unmount things, after you close the program, the discs are still in explorer and load your games up fine.
