... a different angle of it.

If you find a restaurant not serving the proper size of pint (20oz) you can file a complaint, as it is actually law that it has to be 20oz.

https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/mc-mc.nsf/eng/h_lm00007.html

Before submitting your complaint, consider the following:

A pint contains 20 fl oz (568 ml) in Canada.
The limit of error for 20 fl oz is 0.5 fl oz (the foam (head) is not included in the measurement).
When a quantity other than a pint is advertised, the quantity served must be must be equal to the stated quantity within the limit of error.

Thought that is rather interesting.

One form of regulation I think everybody can agree on.

That only applies if they call it a pint (and if anyone enforces such a rule). Are they required to state the exact size of all other pours?

A pint is two cups. How do you get a 20 oz pint? Also, it totally screws with the saying, "a pint is a pound the world around."

I have a couple of the typical pint glasses from local bars in the cupboard. They're all the same size, including the ones printed with bar logos and those with logos from some micros. If filled to overflowing, they just measure 16 oz. A typical pour, though, will have 1/2" or more head. That measures out to between 12 and 13 oz.

I measured my pint beer glasses and they were 18 ounces, go figure.

Yeah this is if they actually advertise as a pint. Measurements Canada basically ensures that when a company advertises a certain measurement that it's accurate. They enforce stuff like gas pumps etc... too. Make sure a litre is really a litre, and so on.

TIL a pint is a variable, location dependent, measurement. As an alcoholic this troubles me.

Not really a big deal, I just think it's interesting that they actually have a specific law for something like that. Makes sure you don't get screwed of your beer eh.
No, this is not specific to beer, rather to anything sold. You cannot short consumers on amount of products.

Measurements Canada is a thing? That actually makes me feel bad for anyone that has to work there.
