With the release of Alder Lake less than a week away and the "Lakes" thread having turned into a nightmare to navigate I thought it might be a good time to start a discussion thread solely for Alder Lake.
Clocks changed at the weekend so may just be an hour late if it was not updated. give it a few more minutes.
That should explain the reason why TPU had just the P-Cores enabled consuming much more power than made sense.
HWUB also used DDR5 6000 CL36. I'm confused, you should be happy the platform isn't tied down to the crappy RAM we all feared could ruin the true potential of these chips. HeheWord of caution guys - do check what are the setups for systems, a lot of reviewers seem to be using higher end DDR5 like TPU
2x 16 GB G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB DDR5-6000
36-36-36-76 1T
That will have nothing to do with Your run of the mill DDR5 @ 4800CL40 or even worse with DR or more channels filled.

Math, please! How did you arrive at that figure?Like I expected, as per computerbase.de Golden Cove has 11% higher IPC than Zen3.
Clocks don't change until this coming weekend FYI.
AMD is perfectly fine, they can slash prices a bit on 5900x and 5950x. 11% higher IPC is really underwhelming given how much wider and bigger Golden Cove is. Intel needs to rethink its approach as this will not work in the long run, they need a brand new core just like AMD has done with Zen.
They changed in the UK. Ian is UK based so could easily be a time zone issue. That is still is not published though probably means it is coming late.
That's great. Though water cooling is a must with AVX-512 power consumption.Interestingly, Hardwaredeluxx testing suggest that AVX-512 can be activated by disabling the E-cores:

AMD made a mistake not having V-cache at Alder Lake launch.I like what I am seeing from Alder Lake in reviews. Time for AMD to roll back prices. I was planning for this outcome.
The efficiency cores are super small and I assume also super cheap. This is the advantage that Intel has that can kill AMD, they can be much more aggressive with prices to undercut AMD and break their momentum.
I am happy, just on the other sites DDR4 3200C14 for fraction of price has same gaming performance as DDR5 and 3200C14 is not exactly a pinacle of DDR4 performance either?

That sucks if true but AMD could have sent samples to the press to rain on Intel's parade. They are either planning something big or just didn't expect Alder Lake to do so well. You are assuming they wanted to be late? They had to wait for the equipment to arrive before starting the mass production,
So, thats 2% diff ? Can hardly wait for all the reviews. Seems like it does take 10-120 watts more or almost double the 5950x for productivity apps. And runs hot. I have not seem a review with details, just whats in this thread. No idea what cooler they are using. On either one. My 5950x's run on air. 615-2 coolermaster.Gaming summary from Hardware Unboxed. They noticed DDR4 vs. DDR5 goes both ways in term of performance depending on the game, but also that some games run faster on Alder Lake with Win 10 while others prefer Win11.

When it comes to memory, for now DDR4 is the winner in my book, as the results above are obtained using the most expensive DDR5 memory.

One thing I noticed.... You can only buy the 12600 and 12700 at newegg. Others OOS. Amazon has the 12900k for $1600!
