With the release of Alder Lake less than a week away and the "Lakes" thread having turned into a nightmare to navigate I thought it might be a good time to start a discussion thread solely for Alder Lake.
Well it doesn't make windows 10 more appealing at least and every OEM shipping intel 12th gen is going to switch to using windows 11 so there is no downside for MS, 12th gen alone might not be a huge boost to sales for win 11 but it's guaranteed not a negative like nsp was.Not sure about that. It helps Intel sell Alder Lake. How does Microsoft benefit? AMD doesn't have similar hardware scheduling (yet) but their CPUs can still run Windows 11 fine. Microsoft may get performance/battery gains in their Alder Lake Surface hardware through this partnership though.
Would you say the same about the Ryzen stock cooler?Even 80 is great for a gaming rig, that's more than 20 degrees away from thermal throttling, if this is at full load all cores and max 150W all the time then these are great numbers for the cooler because games will use much less of the cpu.
Ryzens Tjmax is at 95, 10 degrees lower than intel, so 80 would still be ok technically but maybe too close for some people.Would you say the same about the Ryzen stock cooler?

12900KS possibly coming.

Oh, another thing to note. Ring is at 4.7GHz with Gracemont enabled. Must have fixed that issue.Intel teases Core i9-12900KS CPU with boost clock up to 5.5 GHz - VideoCardz.com

Amazing what you can do when you have a hidden water-chiller running under the tableOh, another thing to note. Ring is at 4.7GHz with Gracemont enabled. Must have fixed that issue.
As far as I can tell, that screenshot is showcasing ST boost via running a ST benchmark (see No. of CPU threads 1/24 in the bench window, and CPU utilization @ 7.7% in the HWInfo window).Oh, another thing to note. Ring is at 4.7GHz with Gracemont enabled. Must have fixed that issue.

As long as the E-cores are idle, ring will clock to 4.6Ghz on current CPUs as well.

Why not, hey we can use water cooling to cool the i5 12400.

In a few days, they will do the test again but with Intel RM1 stock cpu cooler.Well, two tests(more clicks) are better than just one test, blah.
Why such a rush, i5 12400 was already roughly tested almost two months ago. There is no exclusivity here, i5 12400 CPU performance is already known or expected.

Core i5-12400 StockPL: Corsair H115i 280mm water cooler, PL1=65W, PL2=169W
What the mobo sets has nothing to do with what the CPU is actually going to do, as the article shows they got a max of 86W power draw even with the setting being at 169W12400 has 169w PL2? That's too high isn't it?
Ofc they're binining the heck out of it: in that screenshot the VID for 5.5Ghz is 1.38V, that's quite close to the ~1.35-1.38V VID for 5Ghz on the 12700K.Anyway I don't know what to make of this. 5.5GHz ST, 5.2GHz MT, and 4GHz on the E's. That seems nuts unless they are binning some really great silicon.

Could be an excellent overclocker.Oh and this is glorious... the Celeron has no turbo boost, which is normal but only 1.1 Ghz for the one P core and 900 Mhz for the E cores. That's really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Here's the spec list for Alder Lake H and U. No P list though. The U is indeed using the 2+8 die. They did end up doing the 1+4 Pentium and Celeron too.
Some of the data looks weird, like 45W base power for P series, 1265U and 1255U having identical specs, etc. Here is a full list of all models: https://download.intel.com/newsroom/2022/ces2022/intel-ces-2022-press-deck.pdf

This is a big SKU list, I'm counting 28 SKUs. In general I like it that there is a separate class between 28W and 15W.
