Ewww... Geforce4? 256MB? This looks a lot like last year's model.

Last year, they also had 19" monitors for $99 that some Anandtechers really liked. I'd probably pick up a couple if they repeated that sale. Repeating some scuttlebutt from last year, Aldi is a huge, huge chain in Europe, almost comparable to Walmart. In the U.S., they sell a lot of cheaper off-brand or "strange" food products (hmm, Aunt Jemima makes potato chips?!), but they have good deals on electronics. The Medion brand seems to be well-built and has good customer support via toll-free. The systems sold last year could well have been built by a savvy Anandtecher loiterer -- they had well-chosen parts.

I agree, built in video this year kills the deal. Spend $200-$300 more for a state of the art video card and that brings this "deal" to $999 or $1099 which is not HOT at all. It all fits together well and really should not need anything else added but is it worth paying that much? I don't know, do you?

From the specs that can be seen here, this isn't really much of a deal... You could buy a better equipped Dell for the same amount if you waited for one of their relatively regular deals.

I still think this is a pretty hot deal. Sure, you might be able to snag a Dell during a sale for around the same price or a little less. But this has a lot of great accessories included.

medion Computers are POS.

German Company that sells computers assembled in Mexico. They hook secondary cdrom off hd so they can use a old udm33 sigle channel cable on Cdrom. The company only provides warranty support through their retailer.

Basically if something breaks, you have to take it to the grocery store that sells 300 hotdogs for a dollar to get it fixed.

Last statement first, they have a tech support 800# (Medion USA) you DO NOT have to take it back to Aldi's. In fact they will only tell you to call the 800 number.

How about some true facts, not BS....

As BigEd basically said, you are FOS.

I have friends in Germany that have bought Medions for at least 5 years, rarely had problems with them. When they did have one, they called the 800#, and someone came to their door and picked it up for them.

Whether they will do that here in the states or not, not for sure. But I know for a fact you don't have to take it back to Aldi.

Have you ever had a Medion, or are you just spouting junk? My GF has a Medion laptop, and has had no trouble with it in over a year.

obviously some ppl prefer better vcard over dvdr drive, but for those who aren't really gamers, i personally don't really care if i have a onboard or a radeon 9800 pro. if i find a good deal, i'd get the 9800 pro. if not onboard works fine for me.

$800 is a decent price. not super hot. just decent for these specs.
