But arguably its more like a slap on the wrist.

He's a piece of shit, we all know that. I kinda wish people who caused harm with their words would get punished more often, especially if they are also propaganda mongers.
What the last 4 years have taught me is that if you are popular enough you can say literally anything you want and never suffer consequences for it.

There's a special place in Hell for Alex Jones, probably near Rush.

Alex Jones is a blight on the human race for sure, not the biggest but deserves mention for sure.

How soon until we discover that Alex Jones/InfoWars net worth is essentially less than zero and he owes massive debts to his Russian financiers. Unfortunately, I’m not sure the Sandy Hook parents will ever collect—but it wasn’t really about the money for them.

This “Death Penalty Sactions” thing is interesting.
Sounds like the Court said Alex is performing in such bad faith and knowingly bad faith he automatically lost the case because any defense he ultimately complies with is certainly riddled with lies or destroyed evidence therefore it cannot be accepted.

This was not a "slap on the wrist." First of all, let me explain what happened here. Jones had been sanctioned (fined) so many times for failing to produce required discovery, that the court finally had enough of it and issued what's called a "terminating sanction." That means Jones automatically lost both lawsuits. No need for a trial. Plaintiffs win.

The next step is what's called a "prove up hearing." In the prove up hearing, the plaintiffs present their damages. Jones and his counsel have no right to speak at the hearing because Jones is "in default." In practice, that means the court just rubber stamps whatever amount of money the plaintiff requests. The court may put a limit on it if its totally unreasonable, but who is to say what is totally unreasonable when you're talking about things like emotional distress and punitive damages.

Jones is said to be worth about $10 million. The plaintiffs claimed and unchallenged damages probably exceed that total. Meaning Jones is going to lose almost all his assets and is heading for bankruptcy court.

Hmm I believe there are nine plaintiffs.
1.5 million per plaintiff sounds about right. One had some moron jailed and ordered not to listen or read infowars forever once released. Sounds pretty severe to me.

No, I think he's been sued by 9 families but these 2 lawsuits are 2 of them, both in the same court in Texas. There are other lawsuits in Connecticut which are pending. Some may have been settled.

Alex Jones will reside for eternity inside Rush's rectum, who, in turn, resides for eternity inside the rectum of Jerry Falwell. This circle will continue. It's the fascists' circle of Hell's version of the Turducken.
Brilliant.

Thats not the problem. The problem isnt that he created hate. Its that he found it.
He took a long hard look at the American people and realized he could pander to a specific group of angry, ignorant, hateful, spiteful, hostile individuals and groups, and then slowly appeal to them, then get them thinking about other things like "Deep State" and "Librul Eleets" and other such nonsense. The general public created this guy and helped him thrive, just like Donald Trump.

A couple years ago he even went to court and argued that no reasonable person should believe him because it was all just an act. He's a persona. None of it is real.
I think he was getting divorced, or fighting for child custody. Can't remember.

Appeals, motions, discovery, show cause, re-hearings ......

Years. If he has any money, or can get donations, it will go to lawyers and court fees.

You might want to read the link, and the replies in this thread more thoroughly before you continue.

None of that is relevant. Not a word. He'll drag it out any way he can. He'll find ways to drag it out. He'll spend the money, on lawyers if necessary, or give it away. If he can't, he'll burn the money first.

Seems like he lost that ability with the Judges ruling but I do not want to play a legal expert.

He's been dragging it out. That's why the judge went nuclear. And he was already on like his 7th lawyer or something.

Oh shit, thats news to me!
But not surprising. Paranoia pushers and propagandists rarely want to admit they were wrong, especially in court.

Throughout this whole case, it has always struck me as downright bizarre that anyone ever considered intentional defamation for monetary gain as protected free speech. Certainly, the framers of the Constitution never thought so.
