Interesting tidbit is the clause that the Government of China could pull all of Alibaba's money in a heartbeat.

A lot of people would lose a lot of money in an instant including a lot of Americans.

I am reasonably sure China will pull this money out from them at some point.

It's just the thing human nature has to do.

That will not happen.

Yes, there's corruption and greed, but more important than that, the Chinese government wants to show the world that they mean business and can achieve what other developed countries can.

To have a successful company like Alibaba in the spotlight helps them, and there's no way that they would undermine that.

It's the Amazon of China. Place your bet on either one. They both have insane sales figures but neither one can seem to make a decent sales margin.

I can't imagine operating the way they do. It doesn't make sense in the long term. Ask Walmart about low margins over a long term work. It just doesn't make sense.

It's not like amazon at all because they do not sell retail. Even aliexpress actually sucks for retail (I've used it before. My order just got canceled). They are a business-2-business middleman. Basically a wholesaler middleman. Their margin is huge also - completely unlike amazon. It's something like 51%.

But is that margin sustainable? It seems like a business with relatively low barriers of entry.

there's other sites that area similar (dhgate) but alibaba is the biggest. there's a bunch of chinese resellers on there but other source countries are available also. you can also find some manufacturers on there that you can work with.

Some of the stuff you get on amazon/ebay is just whiteboxed stuff from alibaba that gets an oem stamp on it.
