Damn, I think this might be the best installment in the MTV Unplugged series. The band sounds really great, despite Layne Staley's obvious drug problem. I can't help but wonder if the instruments might've been "touched up" a bit in post-production, their playing is that good.

The unplugged set was awesome. It doesn't get much better than that. It is really sad that no one was able to help Layne. Such a wasted talent but it wasn't a surprise to see him go.

I can still listen to every Alice in Chains album where I can't say the same about Nirvana.

Nirvana was nothing but watered down punk for the masses. Nothing revolutionary at all. Good music, but nothing that hadn't been done for years before and by better artists.

They broke the scene for every other band to make it. I don't see where you draw that Nirvana was watered down punk. I don't know what punk you were listening to but Nirvana didn't have much in common with punk. At least none of the punk that came before Nirvana. I am refering to bands like Black Flag.

good call codewiz. cobain's style was based on what he thought punk should sound like based on descriptions. he didn't actually know anything about it. he knew punk was this and this and that but he had no working knowledge of the music itself, so i think it's pretty hard to call them watered down punk. they had the punk spirit but they weren't punk at all.

I would say exactly the opposite. AiC gets old, but Nirvana's music continues to impress me. I like AiC, but I have always liked Nirvana's work better.

That being said, I would say that AiC and Nirvana's Unplugged sessions were my two favorites.

well everything is multitracked when the record it and they can compress and process the hell out of it at their lesuire, so it's not surprise they sounded good. that said, they were very talented musicians and the lack of mistakes is from their skill.

Well the reason Nirvana gets boring to me is the simple structure of every song. Every song by nirvana follows the same basic structure. AIC did not do that and that is why I still enjoy the music. My three favorite bands of all time are Black Sabbath, Tool and AIC.

It is funny because for the most part I only listen to heavy metal like In Flames and Incanation but my favorites are not metal with the exception of Black Sabbath.
