Hmm...an alien world game, based off the first movie, rather than Aliens and you play Ripley's daughter (mentioned in the uncut version of Aliens). It is a survival horror game rather than an action game.

*Crosses fingers* since we all know how the last one that looked pretty good turned out...but this is being done by Sega and more like Amnesia.

I always thought Colonial Marines looked horrible and was just baffled by all the hype it got. This on the other hand, looks pretty damn interesting already, and is the only game I know of that's based on Alien, rather than the cheesy and over the top Aliens.

The 'demos' looked good, then they did the whole switcheroo thing. This is why I'm hesitant about this..but who knows...could be awesome.

Ooo sounds good

My brain tells me not to get too excited though, it says Max, CoH2 was shit, colonial marines was shit, you didn't like starcraft II either, simcity, dont even go there... dont get excited!

But it does look cool!

EDIT: Oh good hes said "theres quite a substantial crew involved" i.e. NPC's on the ship itself. Dunno why but I enjoy a horror game a whole lot more when there are some NPC's like in dead space rather than you're alone for basically 99% of the game like doom 3.

I think this looks fantastic.

I like Aliens a lot, but I always preferred the original film. I'm glad to finally see a game which attempts to recreate that feel.

But one thing that might be less than ideal is that the original film had the fear of other people getting picked off one by one, and from the look of this there may only be the player character... but maybe they're just not showing others who are with you on the rescue team.

Ah I guess I didn't see that at first either, cool cool. He wasn't talking about the development team?

No he definitely meant other crew members on the ship, mentions there could be potential for an android and betrayal from them etc. A cat was mentioned too as a joke lol, maybe a jonsey look alike will make a cameo though, who knows.

It could be quite a good game.

I like how there's only one alien in the whole ship. Near the end of the video the guy talks about the alien's A.I. which 'actually hunts you' and nothing seems to be predetermined. I guess that the goal of the game will be to A) survive and B) get out of there in one piece, but without ever fighting the alien per se. No weapons, just tools to navigate and your own wits. If there's NPCs in the ship, however, then I hope that they too could be killed, and that we the player aren't the only one trying to survive. I would find it frankly stupid if those NPCs are all staying inside some fortified room without ever leaving it while you take all the risks. I'd rather actually be alone in the ship with that single alien hunting me down instead of knowing others are always safe while the alien only specifically hunts me.

Time will tell and I'm not really expecting anything good until proven otherwise after release. I have to admit, however, that doing worse than Colonial Marines would be very difficult, there's hope.

Yeah I liked that, these stalker bosses from other games like nemesis from resident evil 3 or the hunter from dead space were always the most terrifying part of the game for me. So a game based around a single entity that hunts you and you have very little to stop it with should be pretty scary.

I really want this game to be as amazing as it looks. But what has me worried is the developer and publisher. It's being developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA, so that tells me it'll be released 6 months before it's even close to being finished, CA's Mike Simpson will apologize to the fan base and promise tons of support until it's fixed, and then it won't be fixed until *maybe* a year later.

CA's main franchise is the Total War series, and nearly all of their games are awful, broken messes on release. Shogun 2 was the only polished game they've had in nearly a decade, and even then it took them about a year to fix the multiplayer campaign desyncs. Empire and Rome 2...awful releases. Rome 2 was released in September and the AI couldn't even use siege equipment until a couple of weeks ago...and nearly every battle is a siege battle. The multiplayer campaign still doesn't work (desyncs), performance issues still haven't been fixed, the AI is the worst the series has ever had (even though pre-release videos said it was the most advanced), and the graphics and interfaces are far inferior to their previous title, Shogun 2. A lot of people criticized Gearbox/SEGA for the deceptive demo footage of Aliens Colonial Marines, but CA did the same thing with Rome 2, especially their Carthage videos.

Granted, Alien Isolation won't have the scope or complexity of a TW strategy game, but I've been burned by the CA/SEGA duo too many times to buy this on or before release. Never ever ever preorder a CA game.

Sorry for the rant. I really want this game to be an incredible experience, but CA under SEGA is a prime example of the "release the game early/finish the game later" attitude that a lot of developers/publishers have adopted lately.

What, Colonial Marines the Musical was an excellent game! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J8SzBhjqaQ

I dunno, seems to me that a ten or twelve hour game of hiding from something would be boring and rapidly irritating.

I agree, it could be boring and rapidly irritating, but it could turn out well. We just don't know yet, time will tell. For now what has been shown really doesn't show much. It won't be a game for everyone anyway (which games are?), the devs surely don't want to and can't please everyone out there. They aim for a horror/suspense theme, that much is clear at this point. And also I agree with Kudo, there's risks with Creative Assembly and Sega as well. If they (probably both Sega and CA) treat Alien: Isolation the same way they did for Rome II... we'll be in for a true horror story indeed.

So, this game's release date has been set for October and pre-orders are currently available right now. You can grab it for $37 on GMG with discount code ALIENI-SOLATI-ON25PC.

Really, really tempted to pull the trigger on this one, since I'm such a big sucker for horror games. But The Evil Within also comes out in the same month and I think that one is a little more promising. Decisions, decisions.

You might want to take a look at the Steam preorder bonus. It is quite intriguing.....

I'm still hesitant though, at least as a launch buy. I will get it regardless at some point.

The pre-order bonus for the PC version is exactly the same regardless of where you buy it from; Steam, GMG, GamersGate, etc, etc, are all offering the "Nostromo" edition with the little bit of extra DLC. The game requires Steam activation too. So it doesn't matter where you buy it.

On one hand, I understand that this is a Creative Assembly game and they've developed a bit of a reputation from releasing buggy games. On the other hand, this is a very different kind of game from Total War, and I recall in an interview several months ago that Alien: Isolation is already pretty much finished, and they've been spending almost an entire year just making balance fixes and polishing it up. *shrug* I don't know how true that is but it makes me hopeful.

Ill never buy a game at launch unless its part of a franchise and the previous title was really good... i.e. unless I know what im getting basically.

That said im still looking forward to this.

That game looks fairly decent, although I played my fair share of space games.

I don't think I can dedicate time to this one because of the time spent and because I get bored of them nowadays because they are all relatively similar.
