I've read a few reviews (well, three so far) and I think that I'm just going to ask my question here instead, because I still haven't found the exact information I'm looking for. Is the alien actually, dynamically, physically searching the entire ship at all times and at any locations? Or is the alien "unlocked" to certain parts of the ship as you progress with the story?
In other words, if I was to think that no two sessions can be identical, then I would assume that it would be entirely possible that five minutes into the game after the start the alien just happened to find me and voila, that would be it for my "intro to" Alien: Isolation (but I'd find that awesome anyway). And in the next session I wouldn't see nor even hear of the alien for two hours non-stop. What I'm looking for from Alien: Isolation isn't only unpredictability, but I want to make sure that as I try to survive that in the back of my head there's no mere illusion and suspension of disbelief knowing that in fact I won't encounter the alien "right here" because he can't physically access this part of the ship I'm in right now anyway, but I'd have to role-play my anxiousness anyway because I'm playing a game in which my character is supposed to be a potential prey every single second passing.
So, is the alien REALLY "looking for" you, and is he able to maneuver within the entire ship right from the start of the game?
Now, of course, for the sake of making sure that one can complete the game there's got to be points where the developers had to deny access to the alien so that 'x' scripted scene can be completed and the guy you're supposed to receive a mission from doesn't have his brain devoured in the middle of the scene because the alien is THAT dynamic. I'm aware of that (there's scripted story-related scenes, right?). I just want those scenes to be intelligently-located to create the plausibility (and not just the illusion of) that, indeed, the alien wouldn't be able to come "around here" for now because as I am talking to these survivors in front of me the passage behind me just go blocked by them so it's giving us time to have a nice conversation without the risk of that thing coming after us because we speak too loudly.
I'm selective with my games now, oh well (especially when it comes to the Aliens franchise).
