Played it for a few hours last night , everything set to ultra and 1440p. Runs 60fps all the time no dips

Anyway it's quite nice looking and a bit creepy. I liked the screen effect when you light a flare.

Stuck though (already) where the hell is the power cell in the room after the elevator/train thing. Walk in - woman takes a shot a me , go and look at the door , pick something up. Says I need a power cell - can't find it :\

Anyone help ?

sneak up the stairs that the woman ran off up, hide behind boxes at the top of the stairs, let the people all walk past you and down the stairs, sneak along the walk way to the door in the corner. go that way.

I did manage to get up the stairs but I can't find the bloody power cell ! I'll give it another go tonight.

Think I'll have a love hate relationship with this game. Really wanted to just pick up a pistol and start shooting at this part

You get a pistol pretty soon but the next time you see the humans they will be preoccupied. Look at the map it will give you tips on where to go. Also pay attention to wall mounted panels that let you reroute power to doors, turn of alarm systems, and fill up area's with cloudy air making you harder to see.

Oh and with the pistol again. You probably never really want to use it.

Ha, so true. I think they give you a pistol just to fuck with you. The moment you use it you're as good as dead.

I'm getting a strong vibe that this is Myst with the added possibility of sudden death and dismemberment.

I've read a few reviews (well, three so far) and I think that I'm just going to ask my question here instead, because I still haven't found the exact information I'm looking for. Is the alien actually, dynamically, physically searching the entire ship at all times and at any locations? Or is the alien "unlocked" to certain parts of the ship as you progress with the story?

In other words, if I was to think that no two sessions can be identical, then I would assume that it would be entirely possible that five minutes into the game after the start the alien just happened to find me and voila, that would be it for my "intro to" Alien: Isolation (but I'd find that awesome anyway). And in the next session I wouldn't see nor even hear of the alien for two hours non-stop. What I'm looking for from Alien: Isolation isn't only unpredictability, but I want to make sure that as I try to survive that in the back of my head there's no mere illusion and suspension of disbelief knowing that in fact I won't encounter the alien "right here" because he can't physically access this part of the ship I'm in right now anyway, but I'd have to role-play my anxiousness anyway because I'm playing a game in which my character is supposed to be a potential prey every single second passing.

So, is the alien REALLY "looking for" you, and is he able to maneuver within the entire ship right from the start of the game?

Now, of course, for the sake of making sure that one can complete the game there's got to be points where the developers had to deny access to the alien so that 'x' scripted scene can be completed and the guy you're supposed to receive a mission from doesn't have his brain devoured in the middle of the scene because the alien is THAT dynamic. I'm aware of that (there's scripted story-related scenes, right?). I just want those scenes to be intelligently-located to create the plausibility (and not just the illusion of) that, indeed, the alien wouldn't be able to come "around here" for now because as I am talking to these survivors in front of me the passage behind me just go blocked by them so it's giving us time to have a nice conversation without the risk of that thing coming after us because we speak too loudly.

I'm selective with my games now, oh well (especially when it comes to the Aliens franchise).

I just played around an hours worth. It now works 100% with the Oculus Rift DK2:
http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2ina7c/how_to_enable_rift_mode_for_alien_isolation_even/

Note: I had to remove < Quality name="Off" precedence="4" /> to make it work.

It was utterly TERRIFYING... I am not usually afraid of the dark but this game really makes you feel it. In most horror games if the lights go out you are still staring at your monitor / lit keyboard / etc and it reminds you that you aren't there. In the rift it is just completely dark. I was wearing a pair of surround sound headphones and I really felt present. I couldn't take it after an hour, my heart was beating too fast. Maybe tomorrow I will get up the courage to play some more. I also played about 5 minutes of survival but I chickened out and quit when the alien started running towards me. Fantastic.

You don't face the alien until a bit into the game. Remember, tension builds. Once you're introduced to the alien face-to-face, most of the game becomes a game of not attracting attention from the alien that you can hear running around in vents above you. He moves to and fro around the are you're in and once in a while pops out to walk around. If you're loud, the alien is attracted to it and pops out close to you to hunt whatever it was making noise. Sometimes the alien pops out anyway to "patrol" areas looking for you because he knows you're there somewhere, presenting you with the game mechanic of hide and seek while trying to accomplish your goals.

There's a great bit involving a big room with hostile humans and the alien and you sneaking around the room.

Another bit, I was reading some information on a computer terminal when I found myself with a tail protruding from my chest. :awe:

Without revealing too much, it's really well done. Really. After having played several hours of this, the reviewers that were whining about stuff earlier really are just a bunch of baby whiners.

Playing on hard right off the bat and frightened out of my wits. Love it. Really well done game.

Managed to get past that bit last night , it's the door the people come out off that you need to go down.

Way past that part now

Quite enjoying this game actually , it's actually pretty hard too

Can I survive being spotted by the alien? Is there any chance in hell of running away?

If you are far enough away and can duck into a locker quick enough then it is possible. Under a table will not work as he will find you.

When I first saw the alien
I was waiting for the transport after it killed axel, I get into the transport and look behind me, I see it drop down from the ceiling just outside the door, I think to myself "meh scripted, bet it'll make some noise then sod off again" but no it walks into the damn transport and kills me! lol.
Thing is dangerous!!
