each of the four movie is presented in a theatrical and "special edition" version on one disk. there is a second disk for each movie that contains all the supplemental material and then an additional disk that covers the whole series.

well worth the $62 i paid at costco. =)

One question: Is it the director's cut of Alien in the boxed set, the one released in theaters a few weeks ago (which never made it to my city, to my frustration)? I'm absolutely dying to see the extra footage, but I'd hate to blow $62 and find out that it's the "regular" version.

Ordered it from Deep Discount DVD when they had the 20% off going the first week of December, so it worked out to $58 and change...got it last week, haven't had a chance to open it yet.

I have only watched the first two movies so far, but the transfers are very, very nice... especially for Alien, which is nearly 25 years old now (feeling old having said that, I saw the original release in the theatre... )...

i think that the only movie in this set i have a problem with is the "special edition" of alien^3... fincher disowned the movie during/prior to post production (because the studio took was taking control away from him) and some of the re-introduced footage looks like it was pulled out of someone's ass (like the scenes w/ audio so poor it is subtitiled) or contains SFX that weren't finished since they weren't going to make it into the movie (like the baby alien coming out of the ox).

the supplemental footage for alien^3 actually discusses the whole fincher deal. i'm just as amazed that it made it onto the DVD as I am that the new Battlestar Galactica folks let Richard Hatch badmouth their version of the story in the pre-show warm-up.

Of all the movies in this box set, this is the only one that I prefer in its theatrical release version.

I've seen it. It's not a big deal.

What IS a big deal is the Aliens special edition. You get to see the whole colony living on the planet BEFORE they know there are aliens there, and you get to see newt's parents go out and find the ship. This adds *tremendously* to the story.

I disagree.

Alien 3 brought back the horror that was tossed aside in the second movie in favor of glitz and gunfire. Aliens was more of an action film than a worthy successor to Alien, whereas Alien 3 returned the creep factor and isolation that made the first one so chilling.

Alien Resurrection had some fantastic dialogue. More comedy than horror, but combined with Sigourney Weaver's rather sexy appearance, it was an overall good movie. Ron Perlman gave an excellent performance, and Ripley's emotional attachment to the aliens, half-breed, and failed clones was stunningly portrayed.

"Hey, I'm not the mechanic around here, Einstein! I mostly just hurt people!"
