OK in War of the Worlds, common bacteria and viruses killed the aliens. However, wouldn't the aliens have brought some bacteria and viruses along with them as well that humans would not be immune to?

I always thought the more important question was why the fuck didn't they do a few blood tests before they rolled in enmass?

Yeah, apparently with over a million years of planning they'd be able to, you know, figure that out.

You know, I always wondered how deep in the earth those tripods were located. I figured by that time humans would have atleast found one.

Seriously though, If I ever saw an ET I'd be scared shitless.

Any serious alien invasion would result in the world being a scorched radioactive hunk of rock with all the volatiles burned off.

You're assuming both physiologies are compatible.
Apparently compatible enough to allow Earthly bacteria to kill them.

Maybe they discovered ways long ago to eradicate all bacteria from their bodies and environment. Genetic manipulation may have allowed for the production of the proper digestive substances, or maybe there's some subdermal implant which releases specific chemicals (and thus energy) directly into their bloodstreams.

Or, maybe the producers didn't want to make a totally dismal sequel: "Death of the World," in which all life on Earth begins to die out as a myriad of alien microbes begin to take over.

In many iterations of War of the Worlds (Jeff Wayne's 1978 Progressive Rock musical is my favorite), this is precisely what they say. The aliens did not realize the threat due to the bacteria and viral problems being eliminated on thier home world ages ago. They no longer had flesh-eating bacteria and the threat had long faded from their memory, history, and science. Most WotW lore ponders the threat of them preparedly returning, with full knowledge of their mistake in the unsuccessful attempt.

Why does everybody always assume aliens would be hostile? We have no idea what form aliens are in if they even exist at all. For all we know they only exist as something we cannot imagine. We probably won't even have a way to interact with them if we ever do run in to them.
