Holy Makeral, what a game. I'm on the 3rd marine mission and can't think of a game I've played thats got my heart racing this bad. Undying got me good, but I think AVP2 is scarier...What did you all think.
I love that game. Scary as hell if you play the marine missions properly too. IMO it's one of the most overlooked games ever. It felt so right, as a marine you were just trying to survive, the pred you felt completely powerful and as an alien you were a f***ing menace
I think it was the beeping noise that the scanner makes. I don't know what it is about it, but that alone seems to raise the tension level greatly for me.
You guys will probably wanna hit me over the head for saying this but I think the DOOM series has gotten me the most. If you've played the game correctly which is fast and not big on conserving ammo you probably know what I'm talking about. Running around the corner being surrounded by demons and marines kinda freaked me out. If I'm going super fast and I turn around to see a demon gnawing on my ass usually I respond with a "holy fuk!" or just a shriek of fear. That game is fun to this day for me.:|
There no doubt that DOOM was the original when it came to fear.... DOOM nearly killed me twice. Once after playing the game for about 3 hours, low on health and ammo and as I truned around in a quiet part out came one of those damm chewbacas without warning and scared the living Sh!t out of me and I jumped and fell off my chair. The other time I was playing for about 4 hours in complete darkness with headphones on at around 3AM and at that time my computer was in my room facing the door and I was trying to sneak around looking for enemies and my mom opened the damm door, I nearly had a heart attack, I had a fear convultion, if anyone knows what that is.
Now put yourself in a totally %100 dark room with only the monitor on playing AvsP2 with surround sound. and check out the size of my speakers http://ravines.tripod.com/system/
You will then know that the original fear has returned.
Sweet sound system Nic. I have a Boston Accoustics surround that puts out some decent sound. AVP2 has pretty good positional sound but it doesn't help much cause those damn thing pop out of nowwhere and haul ass at you. My roomate walked into to my room last night right after an intense scene and I literally jumped out my chair.....
RTCW made me jump few times, especially while navigating catacombs and those things come out of nowhere, you keep shooting to no avail, lol Best played in the dark with headphones on..
