Well, see the topic description . I know, most people think of this (it's called a 'grey') when they hear the word 'alien', but how do you think aliens should look? I mean, they must be able to live on their home planet.

I asked that question to my biology teacher a year ago, and he came up with the most interesting theorem. He thinks that 'beings' on large gas giants (such as, for example, Jupiter), should be large zeppelin-like creatures, which could be miles long. According to him, these types would be predators.

Any thoughts on this?

We have no friggin clue. Deep sea research has already showed us that life can exist in forms that we thought impossible.

They would possess genitalia.

Jtoxic speaks the truth, though. Weird stuff out there. Reading lots of quality sci-fi will help. Greys do not exist.

Ridges on their foreheads, and will utter phrases that translates to "It's a good day to die".

Some of them can also have a zipper in their back.
I know that for sure because I've seen one like that.

Maybe there are lifeforms out there that are nothing but giant genetalia. Maybe in a gas giant, if you're going to find a mate, you'd best do so quickly. Being a giant set of genitals would help for a quick mating before strong winds blow the happy couple apart.

We don't really have a good set of examples of what life can look like. We do have examples of what it looks like in this specific gravitational environment, with the certain chemicals present here. Water is abundant, and thus plays a big role. In a place where some other substance takes the role of water here - mainly a reactive, volatile solvent - life forms completely unlike anything we've imagined may exist.

Or, life may inevitably wind up in forms we know. Here, complex organisms tend to "like" symmetry. A limb on one side will have a matching limb on the other side. Some organs will have matching ones on the other side. Plants grow leaves in specific patterns. Life elsewhere may follow these simple paths, which may ultimately stem from the shapes of the constituent molecules. But again, that would depend on what materials are available in the first place.

I only hope that, if we do encounter life forms, we are able to recognize them as such, and not blindly destroy that life in our quest to find it.

Humans are naturally egotistic, so we assume that extra-terrestrials will take a form much like our own. The truth is, beings on other planets will adapt in whatever way is necessary for their survival. Environmental factors are key to their development. Since humans are relatively weak and do not have large teeth, we needed to be intelligent enough to evade our predators (or come up with nuclear bombs to blow them up ).

i watched some secret nasa ufo thing awhile back that has shuttle footage of little red/blue/whatever lines whenever a door wouldnt open or something broke.

during the interview he said it was something along the lines of something going up to the camera between frames and then leaving.

this guy recorded 1000s of hours of live feed from nasa satellites to find this.

Greys do not exist? That's a pretty sweeping statement. I would say that it is possible that they do...or at least a being that looks similar.

But yes as humans we assume that aliens will take something that resmebles our own form....which is not necessarily true.

Truth is...nobody really knows what the other beings out there (if there are any) look like.

I agree. I actually read once in a book about evolution, that if the whole world would start again from day one, the chance that humans would evolve the same as we have is almost 0 possiblity. We have evolved this way simply by chance, thats entirely what mutations are.

Reptilian life forms were the dominant type of beings on this planet for millions of years. Humans have only existed in this form for a few hundred thousand years at best. The reptiles only decreased in number enough for the mammals to take the dominant position after a meteor happened to strike the Earth. If that hadn't happen then it's possible that the intelligent life form would be reptilian instead. Based on that I'd say it's more likely that if there are aliens flying around in space they're more likely to be reptilian than human-like.

I think it would really depend on the characteristics of their environment. Things like gravity, temperature, abundance of certain resources, etc.

I think a more interesting question might be what non-carbon based life forms could be like. You can't say it's impossible, but pretty strange to think about.

Is it possible that alien are sillicon-based as to we are carbon based? Most probably they had a nose and a mouth to keep them alive and think with a butt.

well, being this is an opinion thread, i'll throw mine out there.

being someone that believes in God and the Bible, he made man in his image is what it says. however it happened, evolution, out of the dust, whatever, i figure he set it up so that we would look exactly the way we do. and chances are, in my humble opinion, that he probably did the same thing on other planets. i mean, it doesn't make sense that he went to all that trouble creating an entire universe just to leave all but one planet empty. though i'll tell you, after he saw how i turned out, he may have updated to human version 1.2.

they cant look THAT dissimilar to earth bound lifeforms, if all we can see is round globs of rock in all directions then more than likely any ETs home will be subjected to gravity of some kind and be orbiting around something or other.

Unless of course its a multi dimentional being in which case it probably wouldnt look like anything at all
