Resist the urge to thread crap, I know you all can do it -- the deals for the first day are pretty good for anyone looking to get an Alienware.

I know what you mean with the urge to thread crap. I personally would never pay for an alienware since I could put together a better machine for the money BUT some people aren't like that. Good deal if you're going to have to buy alienware.

too much hating on Alienware. I know you can put together a better machine yourself, but not everyone does. That said, I am in the market for a laptop and I read through all the threadcrappers BS about how big of a ripoff Alienwares are. Then I look for better suggestions and honestly, for the small amount more the alienwares are, I think they are worth it (talking about laptops I have been looking into)

To sum up, thanks OP, I will be watching this for the discount on my Area-51 notebook

Yeah, I definitely know there are times when you can do much better with individual components, and then there are times when I've been able to beat Dell part for part in the Alienware configurator (again, not necessarily saying much, but they're not the huge rip people make them out to be)...I mean hey, I am typing this on an Alienware Area 51...I bought it when Hyperthreading came out - first chip with it, it's still a beast today and I'm only replacing it for quad core, dx10, and vista (and I'll be building it myself).

I am not sure what Alienware's lead times and tech support are like now that they are owned by Dell, but in the past they were horrendous. Check notebookforums.com for some interesting stories. It wasn't uncommon to wait a month or two for a new system to arrive, or a few months in the depot for repairs. Hopefully things have changed for the better.

Alienware seems to have more cutting-edge than you can easily get elsewhere.

I never experienced those issues with my system. Motherboard died 2 years in...2 week turnaround, no trouble on the phones, everything taken care of.
