Alienware for Macbook Pro?

Hi, I am currently thinking about trading my Alienware M17X R4 for a 2012 Macbook Pro 15". The specs of each are as follows:

Alienware M17X R4
Intel i7 3720QM
16GB DDR3
256GB SSD
500GB HDD
ATI 7970M 2GB
17.3" Full HD 1920x1080
No Warranty

Macbook Pro 15 (Current)
Intel i7 2.6Ghz
8GB DDR3
128GB SSD
1TB HDD
Nvidia 650M 1GB
15.4" Anti-Glare 1680x1050
Applecare - 2 Years Remaining

I am also throwing in an additional $200 on top of my Alienware. Does this look like a fair trade? Something tells me that I may be getting the short end of the stick.

I'm a little confused- both computers have an internal SSD and HDD? I've never owned an Alienware laptop, but I have a Macbook Pro and there is no space for both in mine.

My current computer handles all of my needs just fine. I am just entertaining the idea of switching back to the Mac world and this offer presented itself to me. Not sure if I should bite though given that the new Haswell MBPs are planning on being released within the next few weeks.

Yes, the Alienware has 2 HDD bays. For the MBP, you have to remove the optical drive.

I would keep the Alienware unless there is a specific need for a Mac.

The AW is a much better machine overall, especially considering the MBP only has the low-res panel. Unless you specifically need OSX to run software, you will be giving up to much especially paying $200 additional.

If we were to trade straight across, would that be fair? To be honest, I don't necessarily need a MBP, it's just something that would be nice to have. The AW just sits in the corner of my room. I don't mind trading if it's fair (even though the AW is more powerful) because it's always nice to have something new to tinker with. I'm just trying to see if the trade is fair from a financial standpoint.

I don't mind going backwards in terms of performance as Apple products have always lacked in that department anyway (shots fired). But on a positive note, Apple products have a higher build quality and much better customer service than 99% of PC manufacturers.

For this deal to be fair, what would you guys suggest? The MBP owner add cash? Please keep in mind that his device has AppleCare whereas my AW is out of warranty.

AppleCare vs non on the AW to me isn't a huge deal. The AW has a dedicated video card, swappable ram, CPU, wifi and hard drive. Even the LCD panel can be replaced aftermarket for a few hundred. I would not be worried having one out of warranty since so little would need a professional to fix.

The upshot if you did an even trade is that the MBP holds its value so you can probably dump it on eBay and get a decent amount of money back. At the least, do a straight up trade, but see if you can get some money.

That was not the point of my post and somehow you turned it into me bashing the MBP. My point was simply that the AW being out of warranty is not a concern since the majority of components can easily be replaced.

Edit: The warranty is also a big factor imo.
