And you're willing to fork over a grip of money for this system, which most can probably build themselves for a lot cheaper??

FYI

I sell computer parts(new) on the side and FEDEX ground is REALLY cheap

Sometimes $2-3 for small stuff like video cards, memory etc.

Check it out next time you send something

I was actually considering purchasing an Alienware system. Based on some of the users comments here, I'm already having second thoughts. What's so bad about them?

the alienware computers look pretty decent, especially for stock computers. methinks the only problem with them is that they're overpriced. but it's cool, you probably get some kind of good warranty and they'll put it all together for you, so it could be worth it. mostly, it's just because it's pretty easy to build computers. not that i'm bragging!

Instead of thread crapping (although I thought there wasn't such a thing in the hot deals forums), I will simply link to my comments on AnandTech Ratings for Alienware:

Link

The comments got cut off, but what you can read of it describes for the most part my experience. Just so you know, I have bought from many online vendors in the past 4 years and Alienware is one of the few that I have ever had a complaint about.

I would normaly not post something like this, BUT, I hate Alienware computers, partly because they are way overpriced, and also for the people that buy them and think they have "the best" computer because they spent so much. I have always built my own computers, and I will continue to do so and save a ton of cash.

Sorry

I've always built my own PCs, but after seeing the newest Alienware in Computer Gaming World, I fell in love with it. If I could somehow get the case, I'd probably just build one myself again.

One thing though, I configured a Athlon XP 1800+ system with an Asus A7N266-C motherboard, 256 megs of RAM, 40 gig harddrive, Visiontek Xtasy GeForce4 MX440 video card, Sound Blaster Audigy 5.1 w/1394, a NIC, Keyboard, and 1 year of tech support for about $1,200 with free shipping. That's not too bad, but you could definitely build a similar PC for a couple hundred dollars less. But it wouldn't look as cool...

Alienware is okay, your just paying for someone to put all that crap together, and slap a pretty sticker on it. I'm with hddy, good work.

Hddy,

Thanks for all of those links! Those cases do look similar to the Alienware cases; I'm wondering if the Alienware is a Chenming?

Also, does anyone have any experience with these Chenming cases? Are they any good? And can you get them for any better of a price than what Designcomp wants for them. They seem a little pricey.

Yes,
Yes,
Yes,
Yes (see outpost.com and thread of $49.00 after $20.00 rebate for an Antec )

Edit: Sorry, the hot deal is for the Antec sx830. The alienwares are 1030 and similar.

Thread crapping sucks!

Considering this guy went out of his way to keep your pockets fatter.

Try to reconsider before posting..

mandms7,

I haven't seen any of the colored Chenming cases anywhere but at Designcomp.com. I ordered one from them like last week and its a great case. Nicely built. Added in peripherals and fans are quick and easy. The 3 1/2 inch bays lock into place and slide out so you can add your HD's and floppy easily. There are two of these. The second one has a fan attachment so you can put a fan there if you want. You can also use it for additional drives if you have a raid system. I think its worth the price...

and

"It's so pretty" as my female housemate put it

It's not thread crapping when you hopefully save someone from making a bad purchase. This is hot deals...if the deal isn't hot then the comments are welcome.

The reason you don't see yellow, neon green, etc. cases that alienware uses is that they paint the cases themeselves as far as I know otherwise you can find white, black, gray/silver, and blue out on the market.

Thanks for all the links! On second thought, I think I'll just build my own system using one of these cases instead of paying Alienware another couple hundred dollars to do it for me.

I think the Alienware products are overpriced. The systems have nice specs though.... but if you built your own computer.. you can save a few bucks.
