I have tried uninstalling the drivers, and then letting windows reinstall them, and nothing.
Nothing is showing up wrong anywhere, there just isn't any sound. I've played with the volume using the "Fn" key and volume in/decrease buttons; and I've played with the volume through control panel, but nothing is heard through the built in speakers nor external speakers. The only time I hear anything at all, is when I hit the power button and I'm using external speakers, I hear the little crackle that the surging power makes.
This is a notebook I'm talking about (not the system in my sig)
dxdiag
DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code) Because I didn't hear anything. I tried with full hardware acceleration, and with no HW(Emulation) but heard nothing.
DirectMusic test results: All tests were successful. (I didn't hear anything though)

It's an Alienware roughly a year old 2.8GHz 1.00GB RAM. I don't know what else I can say about the system. The sound used to work once upon a time, but it doesn't anymore.
I don't know where the hell my sister put the stuff pertinent to the system (Manuals etc. I hope this thing is still under some kind of warranty, but in the mean time, if there is a grand master who thinks they have a solution...)
