I've noticed that Alienware seems to be offering nVidia's SLI multi GPU solution, but I thought they were going to push their own technology that would allow any 2+ video cards to be thrown together...

I dunno, perhaps they are going to still offer both but perhaps nVidia's SLI is just that much more "practical"

I have yet to see their own SLI like solution available, but they sure did hype it up. Maybe they threw in the towel after NVidia beat them to the punch.

perhaps, it did seem as if their method would be less efficient, however the big perk was that you could throw in any two cards together, even mix an ATI and an nVidia - well supposedly. Another big perk would be that it wouldn't have to be just for games, you should be able to use it with graphics dev cards to improve productivity.

they might've released this so that they would be the first to have a two card solution, otherwise some other company probably would've beat them to it.

I've read somewhere that Alienware also offers ATI SLI? Not quite sure though. I really wish people like Alienware and Dell and Voodoo could sell their parts seperately. Like Alienware's SLI motherboards, Dell's 6800GTO (I know it's a POS but they could sell it for like <300 bucks) and Voodoo's cases P) that would be sweet.

While Alienware?s Video Array technology continues to be finalized, SLI technology is now available for use in the SLI-compatible Area-51 ALX system. Alienware is the first system manufacturer to offer the dual-GPU capabilities of SLI, which can deliver up to a 100% increase in graphics performance.

Currently only NVDIA uses SLI technology and only with their following cards:

- NVIDIA® GeForce? 6800 Ultra PCI Express 256MB
- NVIDIA® GeForce? 6800 GT PCI Express 256MB

When Alienware's Video Array is available, it will let you use any two identical video cards from any Video Card manufacture. You will not be restricted to one brand or model.

The regular 6600 doesn't support SLI, but the PCIe 6600GT does.

No offense Alienware Juan, but isn't "100%" stretching it a bit?

The SLI tech is unmatched and sells itself, no need to exaggerate 20-30% IMO. It's already the best thing since miniskirts and the Wonderbra.

20-30%? AnandTech's graphs show between 60 and 80%...

Errr, I stand corrected?

20-40% exaggeration? In any case, 60-80% needs no salesmanship- those are massive gains.

I don't get it - supposedly AlienWare is the one that owned the patent on that technology - possibly they licensed it to NV, and then get the rights to sell their own version of it, based on NV tech.?

The NVIDIA SLI technology is something NVDIA brought out. Alienware is providing this technology on one of its ALX systems. NVIDIA doesn?t support SLI on two different models or from different vendors. SLI supports configurations with the same model (i.e. 6800 Ultra) from the same vendor (Vendor XYZ).

Alienware will come out with a Video Array that is proprietary to Alienware. This system will let you have any two video cards (both cards must be from the same manufacturer and model) from any company or any type of card.
