Seagate of course has 5 year warranty on internal drives, but lately many people have found out that though the serial numbers on the drive match those on the UPC, the part and model numbers do not, and the numbers on the drive itself causes Seagate's site to report it as not covered under a Seagate warranty. YMMV, but best bet is to keep the invoice and UPC.

Why should they lock yours. Apparently you cant post something if its been sold before at a store for a price. If my threads are going to be locked then so should this one. You just dont get it do you?

You don't get it. I am volunteering to lock my thread because there is no other useful information other than duplicate information between both threads. They can lock mine or lock Zap's thread. I don't think it makes too much difference to either of us. Your thread was locked because you proclaimed the original was too long and the price was wrong without trying to PM the OP. Then you put up a second thread and complained about the Mods doing you wrong on the first thread. You expected the original thread to be locked because of the price difference? That thread had 3 months of information about how to overclock.

I never claimed it needed to be locked but why didnt the mod just update the price on the original post. And as I have heard the hot deal police say many times this is a hot deal thread....so information like overclocking doesnt even belong here.

I have pmed the OP. I wonder how many people missed out on this deal because this is third time its been at this price with no update. And if they did happen to click and look through the posts it would appear the deal is dead.

I dont care that my thread was locked just that the correct information is not available.

That seems incredibly hot, $200 for 500 gigs...

I ordered one of the Seagate 500GB for about $197.26 shipped price. If they didn't limit me to only one, I would have gotten two.

Thanks for the support, esquared. Hehe, looks like I was the first one to reply to your post BITD and now you're the first to reply to mine. Keep up the good work!

Seagate bought maxtor a while back! A part of me hopes that this will mean longer MFR WTY's for maxtor drives, but my better judgement says that maxtor won't change much and remain the budget line of seagate. Cross fingers, pray that some day they'll be longer. Of course, the 500 for $200 is pretty durned hot IMO.

Longer warranty doesn't mean longer life or better reliability. Most recent HDD I had fail was a Seagate, 5 year warranty and all. I still have a couple of WD and Maxtor drives that are still working fine and are even older than that Seagate. For data security, BACKUP YOUR DATA. Still, being able to RMA the drive had me feeling all was not lost (neither was my data). Seagate replacing my 200GB with a 300GB just means I need to purchase a few more of their drives.

Any SATA/ATA enclosures you guys recommend? Thinking of may making that 500 seagate an external storage...

If it wasn't for that 1yr warranty I would be getting 3 of those Maxtors for a sweet RAID 5.

Good deal if you like Maxtor. I'll wait for WD to hit this price. Hopefully this is a start of things to come. The 320GB's have been at the sweet spot for too long.

Me too. But it'll probably go down even further.

Yeah, perhaps we'll see it at $180 in two months or so... but don't buy it at that price because it'll probably go down even further... we'll probably see $170 in six months or so... but don't buy it at that price because it'll probably go down even further... Where does the madness end?
