If so, can you verify whether this is a Newcastle or Venice core?
Thanks.

I just came back from Fry's in Burbank.

Not sure if its Venice or not but it says

ADA3000AIK4BX
CBBWE 0610CAE

Please interpret for me

Wow. I got the exact same stepping. From the research so far, it's a Venice core, 90nm.

I have a P4 2.4 Ghz AGP system and just bought an AGP 6800GS to get a little more life out of it. Is this upgrade gonna give me a decent boost (in gaming) to, say, let me play Oblivion in 1280 x 1024 when my Hanns-G LCD arrives? Thanks!

Definitely! You should see at least a 33% boost in performance and if you overclock, even greater!

Check out this comparison from Tom's Hardware

I got in last night for 2.
I wish they had package this combo with the ECS Nforce4 which has the pci-express.
People that have gotten the 3100+ sempron with this board were able to OC alot.
This has the CPU clock from 200mhz-400mhz.

I have this Nforce3 board right now with a Sempron and the CPU clock only go up to 250mhz.

If they ever have this combo with the Nforce4, it would be the best bidget deal EVAR.
This CPU has a base of 2.0ghz(unlike the 939 venice which is 1.8ghz).
So it means this CPU has a multiplier of 10x.
Major OC potential for a budget setup.

I just called outpost, they said it is still available, but the price is now $109.99 instead of $99.99.

I went ahead and ordered one at the new price. $117.54 shipped is still a good deal.

I am so glad that I just pulled the trigger last night when I had the chance. I even received the confirmation e-mail. It didn't say it was shipped, though. I hope they (2 sets) come next week.

By the way, those of you who got in on this deal, can you tell me what the heatsink/fan looks like? Does it have the copper pipes? Or, is it just plain jane aluminum? Thanks in advance.

I think the copper pipe is only packaged with the Opteron retail.

I think I read in another thread that the Ecs nforce 3 motherboard can be updated with a Biostar bios to enable it to go over 300 mhz (sorry I can find the link now).

Anyway I picked up the Nforce4 + 3100+ Sempron a couple of weeks ago at Fry's, and I picked up the Athlon 64 3000+ combo today. Anyway I dropped that sucker intot he ecs Nforce4 today and I noticed that my CPU temp is 10 degrees higher now. I was getting 24-27c idle with the Sempron (Paris core) and with this Athlon 64 (Venice) its around 35C idle. A little hotter, but I'll see how hot it gets when I start overclocking before I make my final judgement.

Had a friend call and tell them about the $99 online price. First person gave him a hard time. He called back and got a nicer guy and got it for $99.

I bought and put this combo together last night, intending it to be an upgrade mythtv pvr box. Most of you probably couldn't care less, but if you intend to use the mobo (especially w/ linux), this is a heads-up, don't bother.

The mobo bios is EXTREMELY buggy, especially if you enable APIC (and even if you don't). It couldn't even configure the PCI space correctly when all the slots are populated. (Can't determine AGP aperture and other memory space configuration errors, such that it either won't boot completely or kernel panics if you do.)

While I was pleased to get a nice deal on a processor, this particular ECS board is very disappointing. I've had plenty of other ECS boards that worked flawlessly, including the much maligned K7S5A that always worked like a champ for me.

I have the Sempron 3100 combo with this board running my file/mp3 server on Ubuntu Breezy, no problems what so ever.

Tell me you don't get this in your dmesg (regardless how many slots get populated):
NFORCE3-250: BIOS didn't set cable bits correctly. Enabling workaround.

And this is what happens when your slots are fully populated, as I said earlier. Here 01:00.0 is a nvidia fx5200 AGP display card (tried other cards such as ATI too, pretty much same deal):
kernel: PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 1 of device 0000:01:00.0
kernel: PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #1:8000000@b0000000 for 0000:01:00.0

And when one tries to load the proprietary nvidia driver:
kernel: NVRM: This PCI I/O region assigned to your NVIDIA device is invalid:
kernel: NVRM: BAR1 is 0M @ 0x00000000 (PCI:0001:00.0)
kernel: NVRM: The system BIOS may have misconfigured your graphics card.
nvidia: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -1
kernel: NVRM: The NVIDIA probe routine failed for 1 device(s).
kernel: NVRM: None of the NVIDIA graphics adapters were initialized!

I don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill but I advise peple to stay away from this one especially if you intend to full populate all your slots.

I agree with rvr2k3. I've been running this system for about month or so. NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER! Mechou, maybe you got a bad board. It is either that or you don't have the right drivers?! Check out the Sempron3100 thread. A lot of excellent opinions were shared regarding this mobo. Good luck!

Maybe its just a bad board.
My Nforce3 is running flawlessly.
