Thats about it.
I was playing Q4 all day with it.

He was talking about running the memory 1:1 (200) at 250MHz.

Thanks, I was. Insane3d, where art thou? I want to learn how you were able to raise fsb to 250 at 1:1 with a pc3200 memory!

Why ? The difference is so minimal.

CTTrain, can you help me answer the questions that I have previously asked and the reasons for your answers? As you can see, I'm trying to understand this as well as I can.

I have previously asked ...

Wampa, are you 10 x 250 at 1:1 or did you lower your memory to 166? Here is a question for you guys. 250fsb at 166mhz is about 209fsb at 200 memory speed (1:1). If I am currently running mine at 217 at 1:1, is this faster? or is 250 at 166mhz faster? I would think that my current speed is faster because it is running at a higher fsb at 1:1. Of course this is just a guess. Or is 250fsb faster, just because it is at a higher fsb? Isn't this an "illusion" because your memory is running at a slower speed? You guys and gals out there with more knowledge, please teach me! Thanks a lot.
Here's your answer.

Sorry, I don't the exact answer to your question.
I do know that the difference is very minimal.
I've read a few reviews to where they run the memories at different speed and it makes little difference which is why I never bother to find in depth how it works.

Because the Athlon and this board do not allow changing the CPU multiplier you can only adjust the FSB and the Memory interface speeds. With those settings the CPU Clock is runnning at 2500MHz.

If I am currently running mine at 217 at 1:1
Again with the locked mutipliers on the CPU (10x) That'd be 2170 MHZ CPU Clock or 330MHz slower or ~15% difference for CPU clock and a 4% advantage for Memory clock. You could still run the 217 Memory clock if you bumped the speed to 261MHz and 166. However, your CPU would be OC'd at 2610MHz and probably doesn't overclock that high. Hence the 250/166 setting some folks settled on.

Ideally, you could change the multipliers and run @11.5 * 217 to get the best of both worlds but you can't do that with Athlon64 except for FX series which is $$$.

is this faster?

In the end it depends on the benchmark/app. If something is very memory intensive and not so much CPU intensive you'd possibly see better scores than with the faster FSB speed. You can run MemCheck test and it'll report the throughput's and test your memory at the sametime. There are other factors like CAS timings, etc such that you could lower latency with the 209MHz vs the 217MHz setting. In the end I'm going to wager that the differences are negligible (you'd hardly notice any difference outside of benchmarks) but the general advantage being to 2500/209 instead of 2170/217.

This turned out to be a very easy build - thank you OP & all other posters. I used the 5.11 nForce drivers for all except the LAN (used 5.10 for that). The only issue I've got is that I'm getting intermittent artifacts - very minor. I've got an ATI 9200SE with Omega drivers on XP. I had the same card/config on my Chaintech MB & did not have this issue. Anybody else having this?

Thanks

Ok, got to admit, I'm a little bit disappointed. I set to (using a single 1-gig Corsair value ram 3-3-3-8 1T):

10 x 250
stock voltage
HHT 3x
Memory: 166

and this setting along with changing to 10x245 won't even boot into Windows. I dropped it to 10x240 and ended up with a BSOD after about 5 minutes in windows. I just now dropped to 10 x 235 and this appears to be stable at the moment... any suggestions on what might be wrong here?

However, I will admit that this setup is a big improvement over my old XP 2000+ system.

Mine is weird too.
I had it running at 2.5 flawlessly on the ECS board and I couldn't try higher because of the 250mhz limit.
So I popped it in a Nforce4 board(biostar) and I can't get it to boot into Winxp beyond 235mhz....just weird.
Same setting and everything.

Its only stable at 2.25ghz on the Nforce board......doesn't seem right that just the board would make a 250mhz difference.

Just an update:
With the same Biostar NForce4 board, I am now running it at 2.65ghz stable.
2.7ghz is fine but it won't finish some of the test program.

All I did was took out one the 512mb out.
Before I was running 2x512.
With just 1 ram in there, I was able to boost it from 2.25 to 2.65. Go figure.
Makes it seems like the board doesn't like running 2 rams too much.
I'm gonna get a 1gb ram and see if i get the same result.

I just noticed Table A. page 16 of the ECS mobo manual shows that with two "double rank" DIMMs the maximum DRAM speed drops from DDR400 to DDR333. Is this related? What's "double rank"? (I'm a noob) Would I be better with one 1gb stick than the two 512 sticks I have now ready to build? Did you try the 1gb stick?
Thanks

Thanks

from tyan (bold is mine) ..Double-sided unbuffered DIMMS and SODIMMS are always Dual-Rank.

I have this combo running with 512 mb of corsaire value select, I got another stick for a total of 1 gig, My problem is the mobo wont recognise the second stick, I have it seated properly.. and I know the second stick is good, because I tried it alone and it worked fine, Any help would be appreciated, thanks very much..

What is the type and brand? Probably cheap RAM. Works fine with Corsair Value Select (1T) and Kingston Value Ram (2T).

My memory is the HyperX from Kingston, and it still only recognizes it as 2T. This is supposed to be a good memory stick. What da?!

2T must be the SPD setting. You will have to manually set it to 1T in the BIOS.

i can't go over 246 fsb. i have 2x512 buffalo 3200 ch-5. the HT is 3. when i drop memory from 166 to 133 i can hit 250 fsb but not at 166. i tried upping the voltage to dimm and looser timings. maybe its the 2 sticks of 512 or the bios? i even tried switching the sticks but to no avail. performance wise 246 and 250 is no big deal. i just want to know what's causing the instability.

any suggestions? thanks

Try using only 1 stick at 166, if that doesn't work, try the other one.

Yeah, really.... LOL. This board actually does a very good job in OC this chip.

I picked one of these up and all it does is give a single repeating beep (I assume a memory error). I have tried Corsair Value, Kingston Value and generic Samsung modules with no luck. Anybody have a suggestion?

I bought two of this combo when it was $69 at the B&M store. Sold one to ebay. My combo is running 10x270 1:1 cpu:mem. I ditched the ecs motherboard and used my $9.90 abit nf8-V I picked up from outpost. Unfortunately, my UCCC ram does not like running at 1T at 270 Mhz. Running at 2T, mem bandwidth is reduced by 300 Mb/s.
