Chicago Fry's also has it in today's (Monday) ad. I'd get it if I didn't have to drive a near 3 hour round trip for it.

Got my combo in today. Definitely Venice chips, which is cool...no pun intended
CBBWE 0611FAE

Didn't there used to be 4 letters after the production week code?

At least you have that option.
I can only hope Frys put some of the stuff on Outpost.
At least I don't have to pay tax on stuff from Outpost.

SF Bay Area has it again today through tomorrow too. Picked up another one.

Both of mine have been CBBWE 0611FAE as well.

Here is my initial impression.
I have an ECS/Sempron 2800+ so it was easy for me to jam the 3000+ in there with little effort.

- On the Sempron 2800+, I run it at 250 so its at 2.0ghz(166 memory, no voltage and HT at 3x.....at 4x it won't boot pass 230)
- I plop the 3000+ in and boot it at 250 also......same setting.(running at 2.5ghz)

So I run the SuperPi program(there are many version, I just picked the plain one).
Here is the table for reference...LINK
On the Sempron, I got 505.
On the 3000+, I got 418.

If you look at the chart, I wonder why it is slower than a 3800+ which is 2.4ghz...it got 395.

So I went back and raised the HT to 4x.....it gave me an error.
So I was able to boot up at 245 with HT=4x.
It ran Super Pi slower...429

I don't know, maybe its a different SuperPi version they are running.
There are other varieties but the 3000+ should run at 2.5ghz no probelm.

I thought I would try 245 first then bump it up, I will bump it up to 250 and post my results.

I just switched out my sempron 3100@2.4ghz, and popped in this A64 3000 venice. Right now it is running 2.6ghz@1.55v on the ECS nf3 mobo...

Did you use ClockGen or the Biostar bios to get it to 2.6ghz ?

Yes, inquiring minds want to know

Also, what temp is it running at?

I ordered it on Thu, and it shipped same day. Usually the good Outpost deals go quick so I didn't hesitate on this one.

Got it working last night. Wanted to test memory settings first, using two Kingston DDR400 value ram, was able to run 230MHz FSB (x2) at 3-3-3-8 2T for an effective 2300MHz.

Then tested max CPU OC, I was able to get to 2560MHz bootable/memtest but 2600MHz has problems at +1.7% and +3.4% CPU Voltage on stock cooler.

So, for now, I have it set at 250FSB, 166MHz Memclock (effective 208MHz) at 2.5-3-3-7 1T using Biostar Bios. (Can use same settings with ECS bios but has 2T instead of 1T, I used Biostar to try and get past 2500MHz--think I need more voltage and better cooling for that, and since I haven't even stressed at 2500MHz I'll probably not push it further). Anyway, Temps under medium load 44-49c.

Need to run some tests like superpi I guess. So far, nice combo.

So you followed the instructions in the Sempron/3100+ thread to flash with the Biostar bios ??
And did you use the floppy way to flash the bios ??

I downloaded the files from Biostar from a link at a Slick Deals thread (Page 2)that was quoted from a thread at fatwallet, to paraphrase:

Make a boot floppy.
Download files AWDFlash and N325A826.BF from Biostar

Extract the AWDflash program from awardflash_826g_dos.exe and copy to the boot disk.
Copy the bios, N325A826.BF
Boot from floppy and run awd826g n325a826.bf to flash.

So far it works fine, apparently though you lose smart fan monitoring (allows fan to turn off if CPU utilization is low). I also can't disable the biostar boot logo screen (haven't found option or it isn't there). Otherwise, looks/works the same. If you already have windows installed you have to repair install or reinstall afterwards (I didn't).

I'm running prime95 test now, mainly the CPU test since memory I'm comfortable is fine, and temp's are at 54c after 10mins, usually at 44-46 when idle.

Honestly, other than the 1T setting so far I have no need for the biostar bios... I'm not going to be able to go over 250 FSB with my current setup. That said, it's working fine so I'll probably leave it rather than flash back.

I am using the Biostar bios, and used Award's winflash to do so. I am using an Arctic cooling freezer pro 64, and get about 40c idle. I haven't tested for stability, which I think will be at 2.5ghz...

Sounds like the sweet spot for the 3000+ is 2.5 which mine is very stable right now.
I guess there is no need for me to get beyond 250mhz.

OK, this sounds stupid. I put the stock HSF on last night and had the plastic clip on the side in the wrong position (the one that grabs the plastic edge on the surrounding plastic of the socket). So the HSF is locked in and I can't unclip the opposite side.

I don't want to screw up my core and the hsf is sitting properly on the cpu. Does this extra clip provide much benefit. The metal clips seem to keep the HSF on the CPU pretty well. Any thoughts?

So if the sweet spot is 2.5, there really is no benefit to flash the biostar bios, correct?

Is this process reverseable? Can you in the future, go back to ECS bios if an updated bios from ECS is posted.

Haven't tried it, but, it let me backup the old bios so I'd assume I can flash back and then to the latest ECS. That said, I don't get the impression either ECS or Biostar will be releasing any new bios for these boards.

Anybody know how to get the system to boot from usb key? I have one that'll work on some boards but if I Set bootable to USB-Floppy, CDROM, or USB-Zip it doesn't boot from the stick.

Can the OP fix the title to Athlon instead of Anthlon? I don't know why it is bothering me, but it is.
