there is no "USB cable version"

instead of the dock to firewire cable, it will be a dock to firewire and usb2 cable... this will allow for USB2 and ac charging (cause USB2 doesn't give enough juice to charge) a tthe same time.

so buy the ipod now... and buy the cable later... in june

I ordered a 15 gig last week and was originally told the shipping date would be 5/28, next day it was pushed back to the 29th. I checked order status yesterday, and was informed it has been shipped and should arrive this thursday. Keep an eye on your orders.

Anyone got theirs yet? I haven't received any email updates and am about to call them and find out why the order has been delayed and whether or not I'll actually get mine at all...

EDIT: I just got confirmation that mine is scheduled to ship on or before 05/30. This doesn't mean a whole lot in the case of Dell, but the $100+ savings is worth the wait, I suppose. BTW, it seems they removed them from the site, because of low stock, which is a wise decision, IMO.

How does the sound quality compare to the Creative Nomad Zen/Jukebox 3?

Are the batteries in the Zen/iPod replaceable officially? (I think I've seen links to sites that show that it is possible, at least for the iPod, but I don't know how reliable they are)

Maybe when the battery dies in 2 years, replacing this kind of unit will be very cheap?

I need some insight. I want to get an MP3 player and I don't know whether I should wait or buy now.

I recently cancelled my order with Dell for the Ipod 30 Gb model. I contacted Apple and inquired what it would cost to change out the battery and he said it would be $159.00 plus the owner must pay shipping both ways, which amounts to another $40 making a grand total of $200 to change the battery approximately every 2-3 years. You can purchase a battery from Ipod Battery for $59 but it requires some disassembly which could damage the unit. The unit would be perfect with a piggyback battery unit.

No it is not a piggy back battery and the unit must be disassembled in order to change the battery.

I would hardly refer to THIS as "unit must be disassembled".

Looks more to me like open case, remove old battery, install new battery, close case.

Those are the directions for the old iPod...but I doubt doing the same for the new ones will be much differant. Not trying to change your mind here....just pointing out to the others that changing the battery doesn't seem to be as difficult as you made it sound.

This waiting is a pain in the @ss...still probably worth it though - it's more than $100 cheaper than from apple directly. It would be nice if they shipped them before apple comes out with a new model and this one drops in price.

I also ordered a latitude notebook from them, which is supposed to get here by the 10th, so maybe I'll get the iPod and the notebook at the same time... I placed the iPod order on 05/15, and the notebook was 05/22.
