Hang in there Rivan, the wait is totally worth it.
I'm upgrading from an 8800GT 512 MB to this, and the difference is amazing. I have a Dell 24" widescreen, and am FINALLY able to play at 1920x1200 with liquid smooth frame rates. I don't have benchmark numbers for any of these games, but I played around in each game for about 30 min each, and the difference is remarkable.

Wow, I'm in a very similar boat... minus being able to justify paying $185 for a new card at this time
How long is the 4890 compared to your 8800gt? I have a Sonata III case and am wondering whether it will fit.
The 4890 is just slightly longer than my 8800GT by about a half inch to an inch. No longer than an inch though. (The 4890 also takes up two slots compared to just one slot for the 8800GT). I have the Antec P180 case, and had to move my HD's in order to allow for the 4890 to fit. This isn't my computer, but it shows you where my HD's used to be:
Antec P-180 case. My HD's used to be in the same location as that pic, middle right side in the removable bay (middle box with the ring). I had to relocate them to the lower right corner, in the second removable bay (lower box with the ring). Wasn't too much of a hassle to move, and everything fits nicely. Also, moving my HD's to the lower compartment allows for much higher airflow through the main compartment, which undoubtedly helps with cooling.
This isn't aimed at you Crimson, but wanted to throw this out there to people in general:
If you have a widescreen monitor, then you OWE it to yourself to get a card capable of your native resolution. Trust me on this,
it is amazing. If you have a 24" Widescreen (1920x1200), get a 4890 or a 275. If you have a 22", then you can get away with a 4870 1Gig or a 260 to run at your native resolution (1680x1050). Don't do that "I'll just wait 6 months for DX11 or 12 or 13" crap. Play your games at their
full glory right now, and just upgrade in a year once the prices for the newer Dx11/12/13 cards have come down in price.
Ask yourself if you are really going to go back and replay all your games when you get a new graphics card. I'm trying to do that, but it's hard to find time to do so, especially with new games coming out. I'm trying to play through Crysis, and FC2, and FO3, and Bioshock, and Half Life 2: EP2, and Call of Duty 4, and World in Conflict, and etc, etc, again with the graphics maxed and at max resolution, but let me tell you.... it's damn hard to find the time to go through one of these games, nevermind all of them. So in all honesty, I will probably never experience all of my games at their max potential, just because I haven't got the time. The most I can hope for is a level or two... But I'll be able to play any new releases for the next year at their full potential, that is for sure,
