I received the accessories kit earlier this week. Everything came by UPS in one box, manuals, cdrom, all the cables. I had thought of getting it from Ebay also, but figured I might as well get everything for $20 instead. Although if somone just wants the I/O shield and nothing else I would try to see if Asus would send one for free.

I see the refurbished ones are back in stock as I type this. 99 or more.

I was tempted, but these things have no accessories. Think I'd rather pay the extra for a new one.

All you have to do is call the ASUS RMA phone number and tell them you need an I/O Shield. They sent me one at NO COST!!

$69.99now

So what revision has people been getting recently?

I have a 1700+tbred B I want to overclock. I've seen the refurb abit nf7-s recently for $69.99. My friend bought that Abit last week and but got a version 1.0 and got the retail box with all the accessories.

So how does the Asus A7N8X Deluxe compare to the Abit NF7-S v1.0? Should I wait for the Abit next time around?

Against my better judgement, I took the plunge and ordered one. I'm 1 for 3 so far with Newegg refurb mobos, but couldn't resist the price. If the board works, I'll either buy the accessories from Asus or this.

you have to e-mail bonniel@asus.com for accessory kit. Then she'll reply with THIS form. You have to then fax it to them and they'll ship you the accessory kit.

I got mine today, missing the i/o shield that I thought should be included. I e-mailed her today, awaiting reply. I also didn't get a digital audio panel and mentioned that too, but i did note in the manual it did say OPTIONAL. But then again, the firewire panel is also OPTIONAL, and it came with that. We'll see.

I/O Shield(Don't really need it but nice to have it)
Not having cables is a problem, whatever you say. But the above is outright stupid.
Who wants to have the back of PC open? How can you sell that kind of computer? Who would buy it?
I need IO shield and I need it more than I need USB2 bracket though USB2 bracket is also not for free anywhere.

Asus gives you bare board, nothing else, nothing. That, with a board of questionable quality (refurb?) and some old revision. I don't find that attractive when a brand new board with everything including 400 MHz bus support is $130.

And as a matter of fact -- do not buy any Asus refurb board from newegg because they are all bare, that is a rule with Asus. I got 266-C also bare and that was the last time I bought Asus refurb from newegg.
Buying a board with no warranty and of questionable quality is one thing but buying an incomplete thing is another.

I got one of these boards back in April and it's worked great....

HOWEVER! I just changed a bios setting (FSB from 166 to 133) on monday and now it won't boot. No post, no voice, no video, no nothing. I'm afraid I've been bitten by the bios-save-death bug.....

Ack!

That is what I am saying -- you get not only incomplete thing but possible defective thing, and also an outdated version.
That is a triple whammy and with ASUS that is for sure. Want that? I don't.

It keep ons going to 100 FSb for no reason. so I am not sure.

It would do that if it cannot accept the configuration, probably unrecognizable chips, CPU or memory. BIOS upgrade might fix it, or kill it completely. Dangerous with versions 1.1 and 1.2.

I personally thinkg that this has nothing to do with newegg refurbs as much as it does with faulty bios chips (or programming?) in the NForce2 series of motherboards as a whole. Also I got the 1.04 version which was current at the time. (2.0 hadn't come out yet)

Over the years I have also purchased the following newegg refurbs without problem:

SB Live 5.1 oem
Microsoft Natural Pro keyboard
ATi Radeon 8500 LE

I've received probably about 6 Asus boards from egg with accessories. That's out of like 20 though. IO shields are free from Asus, and they allow you to pickup from Fremont also for those of you who live in the area...

For those who care, I've fixed my board! I have both a Deluxe and a non-deluxe at home, so I pulled the bios chip from the non-deluxe put it in the deluxe, and it booted, I held down alt-f2 which loaded the awdflash flasher and then switched the chips while the PC was on. I flashed the bad chip with a new bios, and it took care of the problem.

I'm back in business!!!

Wow, I didn't know that was possible. I guess the desperation leads to discoveries.
Anyway I have a little strange problem with my Asus Deluxe. Initially I flashed the Bios because I had some problems with booting after the Bios adjustment, apparently my XP2100 was not recognized (?). Now it works just perfect only I am not able to set any multiplier on XP2100 other than 12.5 and above.
This is the same XP2100 that has no problem changing multipliers in Abit KD7 to whatever I desire. Any idea how to fix that?

I had read about at some other side and decided to give it a whirl. If you think about it, it makes sense. When the computer is turns on, it reads from the bios chip, and then if the computer is sitting at a steady state, it really shouldn't need the bios information any longer. Of couse, it was a risk, and an assumption, but I can't argue with the results!

As for your problem, I'm not sure what you can do.

Yeah, Fremont is like a spit away!
Anyway, you might be right, as far as IO shield is concerned it is just an email away, one thing I cannot argue -- Asus has decent customer service, unlike Giga-Byte and MSI which are my other experiences. Only I hate to beg. I did with MSI for their K7N2G only to be turned down.

Anyone order a refurb recently? They are back in stock again. What revision have people been getting?
