they aren't the same, the bulk packs are heavy duty, not ultra alkaline. i wanted to get a couple packs of the D Cells, but they were out of stock. was thinking about getting the bulk pack, but got a raincheck instead.

True, but I never pay full price for batteries, they were closer to 35 cent each in a bulk pack, AR. Even so I've already switched to NiMH for the mouse, it only ran for a few weeks at a time anyway before the batts needed changed so it's MUCH cheaper in the long run, since I already had the charger.
