Yeah..I couldn't get in for an hour. Now it seems to be fine though. These were actually available last night so there must be a lot of stock.

I picked up a pair of of Superclocked models around 2am last night. They were going in and out of stock throughout the day yesterday.

Yeah. Was down for me earlier too. And it's up now. Wonder if the Step up is available for these. Now that would be something....

Edit: I just tried to go in and see what I'm eligible for, and I can't as I'm already in the queue. Someone try to upgrade to one of the new cards please and report back....

Step up has to be available since it's from EVGA itself. I doubt there would be any problems. Ohh....step up to these? I thought you meant from. I heard you can't step up to the KO or SSC models unless they change it due to more stock.

I picked up an EVGA 8800GT at Fry's today for $269, thinking it would be the 600/1800 version (it was not labeled superclocked or anything). When I ran ATI Tool and NVidia Control Panel, I found out it was factory clocked to 650/1900, the speed of an SC version.

In just a little bit on OC'ing, I have already brought it up to 700/1950 (somewhere between a KO and SSC).

What does "KO" stand for? There's super clocked, and SSC which I assume means super super clocked... but KO? Knock Out?

Is that SSC even a safe buy? I thought the memory interface couldn't handle 2GHz memory speeds for long amounts of time.

shame about the prices... so much for $200-250... for now anyway.
Also, really wish the KO kept its tradition of offering a slightly better hsf. For example, in the 7900GT the KO model had an all-copper heatsink on models where the reference design was just aluminum.

I'm still holding out until prices come back down. Hopefully mid-November things will settle down and I can pick up a stock eVGA for $230 or so.

I recently sold my 7900GTX 512MB and don't have a back-up PCI-e card, so I'm stuck with this ancient Pentium 3 500, 384 System RAM and GeForce 3.

Once supply balances out demand there's no reason prices shouldn't return to what they were on launch day before e-tailers sold out.
Launch prices were $229 for the stock eVGA and went up from there by $10/model (SC, KO, SSC).
BFG models were around $10 cheaper, IIRC. I know the BFG OC model was around $230 initially.
Cheaper-tier manufacturers like PNY generally come in at $10-15 cheaper than eVGA, so around $215-219 is likely their price point for their reference design. Very much close to the MSRP which said the 512MB models would come in around $200 for reference-clocked designs, up to around $250 for overclocked models.
And we haven't even seen an announcement for the 256MB models, although I don't know why gamers would care much for them seeing as how 512MB is pretty much required for any remotely modern FPS game's High settings.

Actually, many gamers -- maybe you meant gaming enthusiasts? -- buy low/mid-range cards. (Hey, there are people on gaming forums who regularly advise CF'ing X1650's!) These people have lower standards: they may not care about running the native res. of their LCDs or using AA/AF.

Even so, the 8800GT 256MB model would be very attractive if it dropped down into the $100-150 range.

Now that the 8800GT is here, what we need is stock and a price war. Although I purchased an 8800GT (not here yet!), I hope that the next AMD card is a decent competitor. There is always room for another upgrade...

Are there any reviews out there that compare the stock GT at 600 MHz to the ones that are overclocked, as well as the GTX, etc.? I'm just wondering what kind of performance increases are seen between the 600 MHz version and the 700 MHz version of the 8800 GT.

After seeing some benches at 1920x1200, I'm reluctant to get a 8800gt because in some games it just tanks compared to a gtx or even a 640mb gts. This may be either the drivers (not likely), or being limited by 512MB of memory (more than likely). I'll just have to wait for a new high end card.

This is why I want a 1 GB minimum next video card because Crysis alone uses well over 1 GB with all details on very high and thats without any AA or AF, :Q

Video cards refreshes happen so often that I'm not worried about it. I held off getting the 8800GTS when it came out. I can't wait any longer to upgrade my 7800GTX!

I meant these benches, with AA and AF. I don't understand why reviews even bother posting benches without these features enabed... it's almost 2008 for cris'sakes, we have DX10 eye candy up the wazoo, and yet they can't accept features introduced almost a decade ago as standard settings.
