So is this basically a Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus?

Sounds good for those who want the pure Android experience.

god that would be nice.

it fucking kills me that providers insist on loading up phones with all their bloatware that 90% of users don't use -- and do it in such a way that you can't even uninstall the crap without rooting your phone.

It's not actually that fast. I've gotten around to reading other people's results with it and I'm thinking that poofyhairguy isn't the only one who noticed that.

question for anyone that has the S4... how easy is it to root?

wouldn't that kinda nullify the benefits of a "google edition"?

really close to pulling the gun on the S4 (or pre-ordering with Verizon)... the only thing really holding me back in the internal storage space issues.

It's as easy as plugging in your phone and double-clicking run.bat

HOWEVER, rooting isn't the same thing as an unlocked bootloader. The ATT GS4 is already rooted (technically it was rooted several months ago already because the same Motochopper exploit works on it) but you can't install any custom ROMs because of the locked bootloader.

There _IS_ a known bootloader unlock that will hopefully be released soon after the Verizon GS4 is released.

Well now that's official... June 26th... So i'm guessing at that point I can't return my existing galaxy s4 for a full refund. As such, is it a better idea just to sell my existing AT&T S4 on Ebay and order the Google S4?

blah.

now do I order the S4 standard when it comes out for Verizon next week and hope I can root/flash it, or stay on my RAZR and hope the Google S4 gets released on VZ in the near future?

Honestly the best idea is what I am going to do: unlock your AT&T S4 as soon as we can, then flash all the goodness of the Google S4 onto your current phone.

If all that sounds scary, then yes go through Ebay and pay the extra to get the same hardware but with Google doing the work for you.

hope the Google S4 gets released on VZ in the near future?

I guess standard S4 an hope I can root/reformat it it is.

The trick will be to get one as close to the release date you can. Once the Verizon S4 is released the bootloader exploit will be released. Then the clock starts until Verzion re-locks the bootloader in an OTA like they did with the Note 2.

So if you guarenteed want a hackible Verizon S4, be ready to pounce on it.

Samsung DID release a dev edition of the Verizon S3, but the bootloader leak made it redundant.

They may do the same again... but it will have TW, not AOSP. Just buy one next week and unlock it.

It's not scary at all. My big issue is that I also use my phone for work. Unfortunately, they currently use Good for Enterprise which has restrictions on root. That means i can't root my phone, unlock the bootloader or install a custom ROM unless I can somehow circumvent root access during this process.

It's the reason I'm stuck. I'm not willing to add another line for 40/month and get another phone just for work so I feel mildly screwed.

I was told that the S4 was unlockable already, but would there be a separate process if you've got your phone through Verizon, AT&T, etc?

The AT&T and Verizon versions are bootloader locked by default. An exploit has been found for the AT&T version, but the developer won't release it in case it can work on the Verizon version as well. Until the Verizon version is released everyone is in a holding pattern.

Sidenote: It is obvious Verizon gave AT&T this idea, so if you don't mind I am going to hate your cell phone provider with a deep passion for the rest of my life for working to ruin Android.

Never owned an Android device, so I don't know what the big deal is about stock Android...yet. The regular S4 seems to be fine with a better launcher, but I'm mainly interested in the 4GB of space gained by ditching Touchwiz, even if I ordered the 32GB version.
