I've gotten around 4.5 hours with 20% left. Most days when I plug in I'm at 13-14 hours total with 2.5 hours screen time and I'm still around 45% left. I keep wifi on always, GPS and all location features on always, and I have the weather widget and flipboard updating hourly, plus all the google stuff syncing.

I LOVE the battery life on this thing, especially compared to my Galaxy Nexus. That damn thing lost 10% if you looked at it wrong. And if you were under 50% it was like the battery went into hyperdrive drain mode.

I love the battery life on the phone when it's working normally. My biggest annoyance is the inconsistency. One day I'll be able to pull an easy 24 hours. Other days the battery dies in like 12 hours with light usage. Obviously it's some background app or process causing problems but there's no way to diagnose it. Even apps like better battery stats just say things like 'wlan_rx_wake' or some other runaway process and you can't diagnose past that. They only solution is a reboot to get back to good battery life. It's so damn frustrating.

This is yesterday's. Usage was slightly higher than normal due to travel (4G and light map use). But, seriously, 1.5hr?

you have a lot of stuff syncing in the background is probably what people will tell you...

But I see it as a trade off. Either you want that information constantly flowing in or you have almost nothing syncing. Those claiming 2 day battery or something amazing sync probably nothing.

Is there a way to diasble Verizon's Backup Assistant?
I sync with google and I don't want this thing running. It doesn't work anyway. It spends all it's time trying to connect and fails.

Currently running the i9505 ROM Foxhound. Its super smooth (more so than any TW ROM I have found) and the theme is almost perfect.

Even though its speed as general-purpose flash is less than the Samsung's, today's Amazon deal (Sandisk 64gb microSD $43) is pretty good for those who want a lot of media storage.

Clicking through Amazon's site shows that I paid $5 less than that last Thanksgiving, though.

Ooh, that's a nice looking ROM too. I think I'll try it out (been using my own slimmed ROM but I don't have the time to work out themes).

I suppose you're using exFAT for your microSD? If you're on FAT32 (I reverted to this for flexibility) then you could try faux's kernel. It probably has the best combination of response and battery usage but it's probably only marginal so best leave it for if you're itching to try something (I'm ALWAYS wanting to try new stuff haha).

Yup, I went FAT32 as well. Maybe when Google S4 hits I will commit to Ext4 and no more tw Roms.

I have to say, I think Samsung's features, especially the eye stuff, work better on this Int. ROM. And I seem to have more free RAM than AT&T cleaned stock.

my Verizon S4 finally got placed in my hands today.

do I have options if I'm thinking about rooting (to uninstall all that preloaded bloatware) or getting a pure, stock android OS on there?

There's no pure AOSP build yet. I'm guessing that will come as a transfer from the Google Edition.

There *are* AOSP-based ROMs already. Not sure what issues they may have. There are also three TW-based ROMs from S3 developers (Hyperdrive, Beans, and CleanROM) as well as some other debloat packages.

If you want to use Wallet, make sure whatever you pick doesn't interfere with the Xposed framework or its installer.

My advice: root and install a custom recovery as soon as you make sure there aren't hardware issues with your device. You don't want Verizon to push an OTA that locks out the bootloader exploit or the root method.

thanks.

rooted easily enough, any recommendations on a custom recovery before I go nuts uninstalling on the Verizon bloatware?

TWRP is the easiest to install (Goo Manager from the Play Store, pick the flash a ROM option) and only recovery I trust to actually make backups.

Some people are having issues flashing certain ROMs with it on the S4, but... that seems like a reason to avoid those ROMs.

what's everyone using for flash storage? I gotta get that sorted out before I get too into setting up backups and flashing.

thought about buying this 64gb Samsung card, but may go for a 32gb card instead. I don't think I'd come anywhere close to needing that much storage space just for backups, apps, photos, and MP3's.

1080P recorded video takes up A LOT of space.

fortunately, I'm not a big video guy.

most of the storage on my old phone was MP3's, but even that was under 10gb (I like to listen to my music on random/shuffle, so there's a size limitation in there because I don't want to end up with so much music that I'm shuffling songs for 5 minutes before I find one to listen to)
