So what is out there / upcoming that best meets my wishlist, in order of importance:
1. Excellent black levels, dark/dark contrast (staring at H1Z1 and space sims...)
2. 2560x1440
3. 144Hz
4. GSync / ULMB

It seems like all the "good" stuff around right now fails point #1 pretty miserably with the IPS glow. Z35 might be interesting, but expensive and I'm not really sure I want something that big or expensive or 21:9.

Moved the Acer XR341CK from upcoming to available. Also updated the color-depth. According to TFTCentral it is 8-bit + FRC. Also updated the color-depth for its sister G-Sync-monitor.

If anyone knows the missing color-depths of other monitors, please enlighten us. If you have a good review, or preview (where they are missing), those are welcome too.

Thanks for the links, flynnsk. However, I am a little hesitant to add those korean monitors to the list. There are 2 reasons why I am hesitating.

1) All that information is in Korean. Which I can't read. I'd feel very insecure about any details I would take from those pages. Especially any information about FreeSync would not be very reliable.

2) Those monitors are pretty hard to get hold of. If I understand correctly, these monitors, just like the CatLeap and similar monitors, will not be sold legally outside Asia. People have to import them theirselves, or go via shady channels. As long as people in NA and EU can not easily buy these (even if only via 1 official reseller), I see little point in adding them to the list.

why not add them under a separate section, indicating both the korean source and the fact that they are not widely available/must be imported? for an information thread called "all g-sync and freesync monitors", i'd certainly expect to see these monitors mentioned.

The Wasabi Mango monitor have been confirmed to support freesync by PCper and they you can get them on Amazon shipped to the states, without jumping through hoops.

Nothing Shady about them.

Eizo just announced a 27" Freesync 144hz 1440p IPS monitor.

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/34.htm#eizo_fs2735

YES! That's what I've been waiting for. I guess GSync would be better for me but w/e. Hoping for no backlight issues.

AND they just keep coming:

Looks good, but if they are all using the same AUO panel what difference will it make? Bad QC and BLB just like every other 144hz IPS? Hopefully the freesync range goes up to 144hz on this one also.

While I wish every monitor released was of exceptional quality, I'm just happy to get quantity at this point. More and more options means more and more sales which brings more and more options and so on.

Latest I read on the G-sync Predator is October street date. It's a shame it'll never be a black Friday/cyber Monday deal... oh to dream.

Thanks for the all info, people. My apologies I was a bit slow adding the new info.

1) added 2 Crossover monitors.
2) added 2 Wasabi monitors.
3) added 2 Samsung monitors.
4) added 1 Eizo monitor.
5) added review for Samsung U32E850R.

As I have an nVidia card myself, I'm mostly interested in the G-Sync monitors. Looks like there were no new ones announced since April. I'm not closely following the news about FreeSync monitors.

Did any of the announced FreeSync monitors actually go from "announced"-status to "available-in-the-shops"-status ?

I recently got a Asus MG279Q (IPS/144hz/4ms/Freesync). I am loving it. I will say I question how good Freesync is though, but I am still tweaking things. This one is 35hz-90hz.

What bugs me about Freesync is that if you enable it, you can ONLY run at either 60hz or 90hz at all times. You cannot be 144hz in 2d and 60/90 in 3D. At least so far as I can tell. Maybe it is vendor/model specific.

Anyone else looking forward to the LG 27MU67? Wonder how it will compare to the Dell P2715Q image quality wise.

No, they don't have to anymore. Now with DP1.2a, they choose to. They can implement G-Sync without a module just they do for eDP notebooks. It requires part of the GPU to act as the controller for the display, to ensure that when the framerate dives below a minimum value, the screen can duplicate frames (the way a G-Sync module operates).

That might not be 100%.

I believe the tech that makes AMD gpus support freesync it might not be inside Nvidia GPUs or if it is they have to get the license from AMD for it.

This was something i read a while ago when both techs were coming out.

No. AMD's FreeSync is 100% based on DisplayPort 1.2a.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#1.2a
Display Port is (almost) free.

nVidia released G-Sync. AMD thought they needed to counter that by bringing out their own version of G-Sync. They called that project FreeSync. When we learned about that name, no products were available.

AMD showed variable refresh-rates on a laptop, but that was existing technology, AMD did nothing new there. (The adaptive-sync technology was part of eDP (Embedded DisplayPort). eDP was intended to let displays on laptops function at very low refresh-rates. So it would save energy. (Always important on laptops with batteries)).

But the Display Port people (VESA) were very quick in responding. And they released DP1.2a, with adaptive sync. I'm sure they worked together with AMD. But it was the VESA people who did it. AMD then implemented adaptive-sync in their GPUs, and called it FreeSync.

I am pretty sure that nVidia could implement DP1.2a and adaptive-sync if they wanted to. At least in their most recent GPUs (maxwell and keppler). However, they think that G-Sync is superior to just adaptive-sync. They put in an ASIC and memory in monitors for a reason. That memory makes it so that they can do smarter things at lower fps. And the ASIC lets them do other stuff to the panel that they think is beneficial (tuning overdrive, etc). When you read about articles comparing FreeSync and G-Sync, G-Sync almost always wins.

The difference is existing, but small. The whole question is: do you find it worth it to spend an extra $100-$200 for G-Sync over FreeSync ?

In the end, the market will decide. If sales for G-Sync monitors stay low, and few monitor-manufacturers make G-Sync monitors, then nVidia will adapt adaptive-sync some day. Even if it is (slightly) inferior technology.
