Acer XR342CK: High-Curve UltraWide FreeSync IPS Gaming Monitor

The monitor itself is a 34-inch AH-IPS gaming monitor with a 3440 x 1440 resolution. Furthermore, the display has a 60Hz maximum refresh rate, but supports AMD FreeSync technology, which allows the monitor to dynamically change the refresh rate between 30-75Hz for this specific monitor. Other specifications include a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178/178 viewing angles and an expected 300 Nit brightness. 100% of the sRGB color gamut will be covered and it will most likely support 10-bit colors with true 8-bit + FRC technology. The screen will most likely be a matte anti-glare one and we expect a 4ms response time like the handful other IPS monitors being released nowadays.

So... forced my ass to OC freesync range on my LG 29UM67P and here are the results:

Anyone knows where do I find this LFC thing?

EDIT: Don't mind the mining operation in the background

I don't understand why they have a 100hz Gsync model and only up to 75hz Freesync. I would have already bought if they had it. At this late though I think I have to wait to see the next generation of monitors.

Which FreeSync display has the deepest black level?
Most probably the Acer Predator XZ350CU. It seems to be the only FreeSync monitor in the market that has a VA-panel. VA-panels are known for better black-levels and higher contrast than TN-panels or IPS-panels.

If you are concerned about black-levels, then you probably won't like the IPS-monitors on this list. Most of them use the same, or similar panels from AUO. And those panels all share the same flaw(s). And for me, the biggest flaw is the "ips glow" on these panels. Basically the corners of these IPS-screens will be a little yellowish. And if you play dark games, and/or play in a dark room, these yellow ips-glow blurs will become very very noticable. So much that I considered the Acer XB270HU to be worthless for me. Note, other people might love that monitor, and other monitors with the same panel. But I doubt they play dark games.

Two months ago I bought a Acer Predator Z35. That's the G-Sync variant of the Acer Predator XZ350CU. At first I was a little disappointed. G-Sync worked. I didn't have any games to really try out ULMB. Wide-screen and curvation was something I had to get used to. 2560x1080 resolution is a bit low, but the pixel-density is the same as my previous 27" 1080p monitor.

But after a month I finally calibrated the monitor myself. Before that I used the ICC-profile from TFTCentral. And my screen looked a little washed out. But now that I created my own profile, the screen looks awesome. Awesome contrast, dark blacks, good shadows. Stuff you won't see on a TN or IPS monitor. I am currently playing Dark Souls. The first game. Awesome game (took me a week to get into it). But it looks nice. And I am sure my new Z35 makes it look even nicer than it would on another screen.

The Z35 and the XZ350CU are expensive. I'm not sure they are worth the money. But for my requirements (a gaming monitor for dark games) I don't think there is any better monitor on the market. I paid maybe a few hundred more euros than the monitor is worth. But I got the best. Sometimes getting the best costs a little extra.

If you have any questions about the Z35 (or the Acer Predator XZ350CU, which is very similar) let me know. TFT-Central's review of the Z35 is very informative too.

TFTCentral:
"Some blurring and smearing a problem due to some slow response times"

So how bad is the blurring in actuality? And is there a 27" 1440p monitor out there that is similar to this panel?

And $265 more for the GSYNC version is absurd.

The blurring is pretty noticeable in certain situations particularly with highly contrasted stuff. I got rid of my Z35 partially because of it, but more because the resolution was so low for such a big screen. Like Gryz said though the black levels are pretty awesome, I went back to an IPS panel and while the IPS glow on mine is tolerable it still kind of annoys me.

hey thats totally what i need - a $1k monitor that needs a $700 card to run it .. BUT MAKE SURE that it has 7w speakers built in.

FYI, it isn't know what kind of resolution this new monitor has. Most likely it will be 1920x1080. So you won't need a $700 videocard.

Also, the price isn't known yet. The 35" 21:9 version of this monitor, the Acer Z35, is 1100 euros. This one might be a bit cheaper.

FYI, I have a Z35 and a gtx1080 myself. I'm very happy with both. If you play dark games, or play in a dimmed room, the 144Hz IPS-monitors (all with the same AUO panel) are not acceptable. Because of ips-glow. For those kind of people, a VA-panel would be ideal. The Z35 (and its FreeSync equivalent) are currently the only monitors with a VA-panel and G-Sync.

What's the deal with Benq and g-sync. They only seem to offer one monitor with G-sync

I would think they would offer a 27" TN or IPS with G-sync and an ultrawide

well, in an ideal world;

i'm on a 1080, low end TN 60hz panel. i have to set the windows contrast to nearly zero (slider all the way down), and remove some green too. when i'm done calibrating it, it looks really dark even with hardware brightness almost all the way up.

from this piece of crap, anything else would be a step up. afaik, IPS panels were always said to be better than TN, color-wise, just not quite as fast. Once i can get a IPS with 120+hz, i would be already happy.

so now VA is the new ideal panel; ok, but i want 144hz with ULMB (therefore a Gsync module) first, and then higher resolution.

also, quality needs to be high, not as random as the Asus ROG panels.

oh .. and why is it now that every panel needs to be bent? there is not benefit from having a bent panel, if you are so close to it. if anything, the edges will have worse angles than the center.

I bought a SpyderColor calibration tool. It made a huge difference. I bought one when I ordered my Acer XB270HU. I sent the XB270HU back. And then I had the SpyderColor tool. I used it on my own old TN-monitor. The difference was huge. I too had calibrated my old monitor by hand. And it was way too dark. There was no detail in the shadows anymore, everything was black. After proper calibration, I could suddenly see details in the shadows again. Really a big difference.

When I bought my Acer Z35, I didn't have time for hardware calibration. So I used the color-profile from TFTCentral. I was a bit disappointed with the colors and blacklevels. Everything seemed washed out a bit. 2 Months later I finally did a proper calibration. Again, a huge difference. My Z35 looks awesome now. If you got ~100 euros to spare, buy a hardware calibration tool. No need to buy the most expensive one, the differences seem to be in the software. You can use the ColorSpyder with opensource software, and then the cheapest one is good enough. Hardware calibration can not be compared with calibrating by hand/eye. I thought the euros for my SpyderColor4 were well worth it.

The problem with the 144Hz G-Sync/FreeSync IPS monitors is that they all use the same panels. Made by AUO. And those have the yellow ips-glow in the corners. I think all of them do. Some people write "mine isn't so bad". But I believe those people just don't play dark games in dimmed rooms. If you don't mind, then the current IPS monitors are nice. If it irritates you (like it irritates me), then the current 144Hz IPS-monitors are not acceptable.

VA might not be the ideal panel for you. I think for me it is the best. Because I play mostly dark games. And I play mostly late at night, with dimmed lights. I also wanted a 144Hz monitor with G-Sync. I have not tried the TN-panels, but I suspect they would be ok for me too. But as you have, I read too many bad stories about the Asus ROG TN-monitor.

My Z35 is bent. I didn't like that when I ordered it. I would have preferred a 27" or 30" 16:9 flat monitor. But the 21:9 is actually nice. I don't mind it anymore. And in day-to-day use, having such a wide screen is pretty good. You can have 2 large windows open next to each other. I hadn't expected that would be so convenient. And I don't mind the bending either anymore. The bending helps against the color-shift of VA-panels. It's not so bad as TN, but it is noticeable if you pay attention. The curve solves that problem a bit. Even if you are close to it. Actually, being close to your monitor would make the problem worse, which is then fixed by the curve.

Anyway, you need to see monitors with your own eyes to make a proper judgement. That's pretty difficult these days when people buy mostly via webshops.

Is there a general recommendation for a 22" or 23" inch monitor with displayport? I want to buy three of the same as I like a 3 across set up. Mainly web surfing and gaming.

LOL, didn't read the whole thread but from what I gather, in order to get a decent gaming monitor, you're going to be paying well over $5-600+

Is there nothing in the below $500 range that is decent? If not, what's a great curved display under 30" that won't break the bank?

Yes, but high end are more interesting than 24"-27" Full HD VA 144Hz monitors. But if you have an AMD card this might be interesting

Lenovo Y27f for $399 (freesync) or Y27g $599 (same monitor paying the gsync nvidia tax)

Screen Size

27"
Resolution 1920 x 1080
Panel Type VA
Aspect Ratio 16:9
Refresh Rate 144Hz

Damn, two extra bills just for G-sync? Wow.

Here's hoping AMD comes out with a gtx 1080 killer soon.

They're finally releasing a 144hz non-TN freesync display, the Samsung c24fg70 (a VA panel). According to the press release, it's supposed to hit the shelves on October, but I've already seen how these targets are pretty much meaningless.

https://pcmonitors.info/samsung/samsung-c24fg70-144hz-curved-va-monitor-with-freesync/

Hopefully the range will be better than 48-144hz, but it's a start. Price is expected to be 450 Euros.

When are the GSync DP1.3/1.4 31"+ 4K monitors arriving?

I'm still on my Dell U3011 1600p and I've been aching to upgrade for years... But I want it all (4K, size, and >60hz).
