Wife's all-in-one just croaked, need a new one. Any thoughts? This was a Canon Pixma 830 and it worked fine for a few years, but really sucked down the ink. Was considering trying an Epson next.

Thanks.

Thanks, but that's really more hardware than we need.

Any other thoughts? I'd imagine these aren't too popular among the enthusiast crowd.

I haven't ever had luck with an inexpensive AIO nor heard of anyone having good luck with one. (The office copier sized ones are great.) In particular, before my most recent setup, I had a Kodak AIO that was **the single biggest piece of sh*t** that I've had the misfortune to use in >20 years of consumer electronics geekery.

Let me recommend: Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 scanner. It actually works on a very wide variety of input media -- paper, pictures, magazine pages with bent corners, whatever. And when it jams (rarely) it is really easy to clear the jam. It is one of my favorite pieces of consumer electronics ever. And it folds up really small for storage, you can just tuck it away at the back of your desk until you need it.

Also: the Brother HL-2270DW printer with Wifi. Set it up, turn it on, stick it anywhere that has a power plug. You're done. The toner lasts a long time, the prints look good, and it doesn't need to be on your desk. Also, auto power-on and power-off means you don't need to think about it.

I agree with the Brother HL-2270DW, it is a great printer. But is the ScanSnap S1500 really worth the extra $225 over the Scansnap S1100?

How does it scan big things? I have a Lexmark S300, and it has a regular bed scanner. If I am trying to scan a book or something, I can just put it on it. I can't see how sheetfed scanner could deal with something other than loose pages.

Thanks for the replies.

On a photography forum I hang out on, I've had recommended the Epson Artisan 837, which apparently does good small prints in addition to office tasks, so that's where I'm leaning now.. in case anyone is interested.
