direct connect?

O, and I want to add Onyx to the list if it isnt there already. 'Unlocks' hidden features of the OS, like using your screensaver as a background, making tab work like it does in windows, and various other things.

Direct Connect is a P2P file sharing client. Also known as DC++

Also, is there a good Hex editor?

I remember being able to do that back in the 10.2 (or so) days. Pretty cool, as I had a fishtank as my wallpaper.

Hmm. I've been using the following:

IM - Adium
WWW - Firefox (I stuck with Camino for a while. was faster but the "little stuff" that behaved different brought me back to FF)
FTP - Cyberduck
Bittorrent - Transmission
DVD Ripping - Handbrake
Media player/library - Miro
IRC - Colloquy
Usenet - Pan via X11. Couldn't find any GOOD "real" Mac usenet clients so I cheated

Ventrilo and WoW also work which definitely makes using the mac much more realistic

VNC (Chicken of the VNC is the preferred osx version..google it) and Apple remote desktop (ARD) is yet another solution.

There are of course others

I found this great program the other day called TapDex, which is a small app that lets you search your Address Book very quickly. You can bind it to a shortcut key (mine is ALT-C, C so I would remember it was for Contacts). It's neat because it pops up out of nowhere, then expands your searched contact kind of like the iPhone does. Oh, and it's free:

The problem with Chicken of the VNC is that it is PPC, so even though it was wicked fast on PPC, it is fairly slow on Intel. It should be sufficient for most things, but doesn't have te chops for ScreenRecycler, which you can use to control another machine and use it as an external monitor.

1-HANDBRAKE..period..can rip any DVD with ease. (Free)
2-If you need video chat with MSN messenger, aMSN seem to be the only one working without problems..(Free)
3-Phoenix Slides (Photo Viewer, Free, seems to be the only one that works to a degree)

Then..

4-Shapeshifter (Tweaks Menus, $20)
5-GarageBand
6-iTunes (of course)
7-PS 2
8 YASU (Cleans history etc., Free or $2 donation)

(Still... no free application to view photos like you would in Windows OS. iPhoto has its own mind, anything else is half ars)

Adium is awesome but is there a way to get the iSight to work with it? I'm moving off to college tomorrow and a lot of my good friends also have macs. It'd be pretty cool to be able to video chat with them once in a while without having to switch to iChat ...

Have you tried Xee? I find it pretty simple and useful for just image viewing.

Xee is freaking great. Don't know what I would do without it.

Thanks. It is working. Better than I expected. I will be using it.

I would still like to have something like windows picture viewer where I can see thumbs and also large size image of a selected thumb. I will play with Xee a liittle though. Also I suggest you to try "Phoenix Slides". It is closest to what I need. I wish iPhoto had worked.

"aMSN" works with internal camera of Macs. I beleive it is the only one that works with messengers video service.
