All modern LCD's 1080p now?

I've looked in The LCD Thread, and I'm not sure but are all modern 22" LCD's 1080p now?

I haven't shopped in a while but I will be gaming with a HD4850. Non of the LCD's online seem to list weather they are 1080p or not so how do I know?

Can I just purchase the cheapest 22" from like ACER for example and it will be fine?

Or are there 1080p and non-1080p monitors and if so what is the price difference?

Also the LCD Thread doesn't have prices and I'm looking to spend $190-$250 CA max. Recommendations?

22" LCD's are all pretty much 1680x1050.

All 22" monitors are NOT 1080p. They use a resolution of 1680x1050. 24-26" monitors are true HD with a resolution of 1920x1200. Keep in mind higher resolutions hurt gaming performance, but look better

I'm not sure baout canadian prices, but I would go with a 22" monitor from LG, Samsung, BenQ. Acer, Westinghouse, and HannsG are all normally cheaper in quality.

Just be sure to do your homework....read reviews and test them out in person and look for ghosting, tearing, colors, etc

If you want 1080p you gotta step up to 24" or higher with 1920x1200 or better (note: 1080p is 1920x1080 so make sure whatever monitor you gets handles that resolution or higher and you're gtg).

The other way to do it is buy a 1080p HDTV that has either DVI or HDMI input and use that as your monitor. Works great and lots of fun for movies & games.

EDIT: Just to clarify, nearly all 22" LCD monitors on the market use TN screens that max at 1680x1050 and therefore can't handle 1080p resolution from your video card.

1080p is a term used for TV's, not computer monitors.

p signifies Progressive Scan, which up until recently, most tv's were not. They were interlaced (eg 1080i...etc).

Computer displays have always been (as far as I know) progressive scan.

Since computer monitors resolutions vary, they are always stated by both x and y resolutions.

1920x1200, 1600x1200, 1680x1050....etc.

I have two Acer 22" 1680x1050 montiors and they are pretty good. Not the best in the world, but for the money they are good. Feel good about buying one if you decide on that brand.

An HD4850 will run at 1680x1050 superbly well.

Whitedog, I'm guessing he wants 1080p for watching HiDef movies on his monitor. Which he won't be able to do with a 22" screen as it won't support the 1920x1080 resolution required for 1080p movies.

Also, don't confuse the fact that the monitor may playback 1080p material with it having an actual 1080p resolution. Just like how native 720p TV's accept a 1080i signal, they re-scale the image to fit in a smaller size. Some do an ok job at the re-scale, others work horribly and drop more data than necessary which results in a poorer quality picture.

For a computer monitor to show true 1080p content it will have a native resolution of 1920x1200. The minimum needed is 1092x1080 (hence the 1080 name), but computer monitors usually are in the 16:10 format ratio, not the 16:9 format ratio that widescreen broadcast TV uses (and some movies, however, more movies use the 2.35:1 cinescope format ratio now than the 16:9 (or 1.78:1).

There are one or two 22 inch LCDs with 1920 x 1200 resolution, one of which is the Lenovo L220X. But yes, in general he would need to get a 24" LCD for 1920 x 1200.

A 4850 will resize a 1080p HD signal (from TV tuner, etc) perfectly. You will just be squeezing a little more data into a smaller area like watching a 1080 signal on a 720p monitor. It will look great- especially on a 22in monitor.
