All NForce2 MBs auto unlock XP Tbred_B, YES or NO?

I have asked this question in several threads, havn't got a definite answer yet. Too bad I already unlocked my Tbred_B 2400+, now I only get the highest multiplier of 12.5X. According to Evan in the Anandtech NForce2 6-round review, the motherboard should unlock the factory locked 2400+ by itself.

But I havn't heard anyone here have 13X or 14X from Athlon TBred-B yet on those NForce2 boards. And several other NForce2 motherboards review sites also showed how to unlock XP2400+ by manually adding a copper wire or connect an L3 bridge. This is really confusing.

If anyone can confirm me on this, I would highly appreciate it. Thanks.

Note:I know the options show up in your BIOS, but did you actually get 13x, 14x multis working by check your actually clock speed after boot into windows?

Posted in another place but I can repeat - apparently the 1001.e bios has all the lower and upper multipliers (I flashed from 1001.g to 1001.e and sure enough they are there - all the way up to 14 then 7.0/15x 8.0/16x 8.5/16.5 9.0/17X is the max). I read on the news groups that the 1001.e bios let you unlock the locked 2400+ via the bios (like in anand's review of the A78NX DLX).

After going to 1001.e I could change the multiplier and reboot, but no matter what I change it to it is still at 15X. So I decided to go back to 1001.g (the bios it came with and previously did not have the lower multipliers) well after going back to 1001.g the lower mulitpliers are still there!! But still no luck in unlocking the 2400+ via the bios. So far I can get it to run rock solid 2.26ghz on 150fsb @1.80 volts. Using a Dr. Thermal heatsink (TI-V77) I get idle temps ~94-96F and full load 104~107 (verified in bios monitor). Not bad to get a 2800+ for the price of a 2400+ but I wish I could get the unlock becuase I am running some Samsung DDR that does 400 no sweat (comes off a P4 setup where it ran cas 2-3-3-6).

If I could get the memory bandwidth I would make it my primary system over the 3.0ghz p4

So far the A78NX does not allow you to unlock your tbred-B through the bios - so far Leadtek and Chaintec I think (not sure about the gigabyte offering) The abit may (not sure) but it has seen lower FSB overclocking then using an unlocked tt-bred on the Asus board.

Look at specs in sig. Adjusted my 1800+ from 11.5 to 11 to 10.5 back to 11.5.

LOL- they didn't make you buy it after you removed the shrink wrap?

hey dooder, most places don't shrink-wrap their mobo boxes...in fact I've never seen one shrink-wrapped before...ever. Of course I don't frequent compUSAs and other Nazi hardware stores, so ymmv.

the nForce2 chipset allows for multiplier unlocking, but the motherboard may not support it. Example is Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard allowed for multiplier adjustments with bios 1001c, but in 1001e or 1001g, they took it out, so flash to the 1001c (or 1001e, can't remember for sure) bios and try it again.

I spent a lot of time trying to find the answer to the question 'fore I finally just said fuggit and went with the plain vanilla A7N8X. Put my system together yesterday and so far, the lowest multiplier I can use with my unmodified 2400+ is 13. You can select the others, but it doesn't boot. Bios version is 1001.e.

Does anyone know (ie used, tested, verified) if bios 1001.d on Asus' ftp allow you to use lower multipliers on an A7N8X (not deluxe)?

The answer is no. At least with the A7N8X. Even BIOS C will not auto-unlock the CPU multipliers.

And, BTW, Athlon 1800 comes factory unlocked IIRC so it doesn't count.
