Yeah, as if there wasn't any suspicion at all. The fact that they hired the strippers under fake names. The vicious email that was circulated amongst the players that night. Of course, they were just some good ol' boys hiring a stripper for some fun that night.

Here's an idea. They hired a stripper under fake names because they didn't want any paper trail leading to them, especially to such a lacrosse powerhouse like Duke.

Because college kids hiring a stripper would ruin their reputation?

The e-mail that was sent around was obviously a gag. Unless you believe that there wasn't going to be any stripping, and 41 was going to kill and skin the strippers.

HILARIOUS GAG! I love sending emails to my friends to saying i would love to kill and skin a stripper. They always get such a hilarious laugh out of it.

Yes, college kids sending out for strippers would ruin their reputation if you're at a high profile school where your team is ranked #1.

That email is analogous to underaged girl coming to your party, getting wasted and alcohol poisoning, then fingering you as providing the alcohol.

Afterwards, you circulate an email around saying something like shoulda made her drown on her own puke and bury the b1tch's body in the backyard. Doesn't mean you would actually do that. If some stripper accused me of rape and I knew no rape occurred we'd definitely send out pretty harsh emails as jokes.

Wow, so the email was created and sent AFTER they were accused? For some reason, i always thought it was before. Well, i can understand that... it just shows they're stupid though.

The e-mail was sent less than half an hour after she reported to the police station.

so was there any dna found as a result of the rape kit? im confused about that (or, where was the dna found that was used for comparison to the team members' dna?)

According to the SI.com article, NO DNA was found on the victim. And they swabbed everywhere there could've possibly been DNA. There was no DNA, no lubricant, and no latex (which would've been present if they used a condom). The only DNA that was found was the DNA of two lacrosse players in their own bathroom.

This place all too often seems to be a bastion of misogynism and latent racism. Here's a good example:

Worthless whore scum, they should bring her to court.

I have no idea whether these guys are guilty, but the fact that the police didn't find their DNA on the alleged victim doesn't mean they're out of the woods.

EXACTLY what i was trying to say...

i would think the prosecutor's office could still proceed with a case against the lacrosse players... while it is suspicious that the stripper withdrew her complaint, its not entirely surprising as the media coverage probably caused her a severe amount of stress (in addtion to the possible rape)...

I heard someone being interviewed on the radio about that. They were some hotshot lawyer or such. They stated that the examiners will often go by what the "victim" says as they will lose their job if they are wrong.

The prosecutor's office could try, but they still have to prove that they're guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The stripper said she was raped orally, anally, and vaginally. If so, where is all the evidence? I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not sure, but that right there would be all I needed as a juror to have reasonable doubt.

That hasn't been my experience, and I've prosecuted rape and molestation cases involving SANE nurses in Kansas and Washington state.

No DNA = Case closed.

No offense, but I've prosecuted and defended dozens of felony-level criminal cases. I'd be interested to hear what experience you have to back up your sentiments.

LOLOL you're probably a believer in OJ too. 'if it doesn't fit, you must acquit'

Once you've entered the real world, you'll realize things aren't as black and white.

Her story of rape implied either latex, semen, something would be found but there was none. So why would there be injuries to her vagina? Because she's a prostitute, yes most escorts/strippers have sex for money. Furthermore she won't even press charges!

If you're a lawyer I understand your need to look at every angle. But this case is CLOSED.

Fark has found a way to succinctly say what I've been saying since I was old enough to understand that Duke sucks.

While they are not out of the woods, this new evidence, or lack of it for the prosecution, puts a serious hole in the strippers story.

I bet she was looking for a payoff from Duke.

As I said, we shall see. That being said, there are non-latex condoms, and rape kits (the tests given to rape complainants) often come up negative even where there is a confession. The injuries suffered by a rape victim, to the extent they exist (many rape victims show none) are not suffered in consensual intercourse. Moreover, you're presuming this woman is a prostitute with no evidence to support your case.

This is the kind of case that brings out the worst in people, including the posters here. You're demonizing this woman without all the facts. I find it pathetic.
