just another example of the fairness of the american justice system. some b!tch calls rape, damages a whole team's rep and gets off as if nothing happened. all while the guys on the team get sh!t for it.
Yeah, as if there wasn't any suspicion at all. The fact that they hired the strippers under fake names. The vicious email that was circulated amongst the players that night. Of course, they were just some good ol' boys hiring a stripper for some fun that night.
Here's an idea. They hired a stripper under fake names because they didn't want any paper trail leading to them, especially to such a lacrosse powerhouse like Duke.
Because college kids hiring a stripper would ruin their reputation?
The e-mail that was sent around was obviously a gag. Unless you believe that there wasn't going to be any stripping, and 41 was going to kill and skin the strippers.
HILARIOUS GAG! I love sending emails to my friends to saying i would love to kill and skin a stripper. They always get such a hilarious laugh out of it.

That email is analogous to underaged girl coming to your party, getting wasted and alcohol poisoning, then fingering you as providing the alcohol.
Yes, college kids sending out for strippers would ruin their reputation if you're at a high profile school where your team is ranked #1.
Afterwards, you circulate an email around saying something like shoulda made her drown on her own puke and bury the b1tch's body in the backyard. Doesn't mean you would actually do that. If some stripper accused me of rape and I knew no rape occurred we'd definitely send out pretty harsh emails as jokes.

so was there any dna found as a result of the rape kit? im confused about that (or, where was the dna found that was used for comparison to the team members' dna?)

My understanding is that a sexual assault nurse examiner (aka SANE nurse) found that she exhibited physical signs consistent with anal and vaginal rape.
I think it's interesting, albeit not altogether surprising, that people here are not only taking the word of a defense attorney as gospel and presuming this woman is a liar, but calling her a whore and throwing her race into the mix with the implication it's somehow relevant. This place all too often seems to be a bastion of misogynism and latent racism. Here's a good example:

Worthless whore scum, they should bring her to court.
I have no idea whether these guys are guilty, but the fact that the police didn't find their DNA on the alleged victim doesn't mean they're out of the woods.

According to the SI.com article, NO DNA was found on the victim. And they swabbed everywhere there could've possibly been DNA. There was no DNA, no lubricant, and no latex (which would've been present if they used a condom). The only DNA that was found was the DNA of two lacrosse players in their own bathroom.

i would think the prosecutor's office could still proceed with a case against the lacrosse players... while it is suspicious that the stripper withdrew her complaint, its not entirely surprising as the media coverage probably caused her a severe amount of stress (in addtion to the possible rape)...

Those of you who are villifying the accuser here may want to read the probable cause affidavit for the search warrant - there is a fair amount of corroborating evidence that is not undermined by the absence of DNA here.

I heard someone being interviewed on the radio about that. They were some hotshot lawyer or such. They stated that the examiners will often go by what the "victim" says as they will lose their job if they are wrong.

No DNA = Case closed.

LOLOL you're probably a believer in OJ too. 'if it doesn't fit, you must acquit'
Once you've entered the real world, you'll realize things aren't as black and white.

No offense, but I've prosecuted and defended dozens of felony-level criminal cases. I'd be interested to hear what experience you have to back up your sentiments.
Fark has found a way to succinctly say what I've been saying since I was old enough to understand that Duke sucks.Originally posted by: Juno

Her story of rape implied either latex, semen, something would be found but there was none. So why would there be injuries to her vagina? Because she's a prostitute, yes most escorts/strippers have sex for money. Furthermore she won't even press charges!
If you're a lawyer I understand your need to look at every angle. But this case is CLOSED.
