So ok here I had this great idea, this forum is full of so much whining from both sides, GWB this Dem. that. I had this great new idea, why dont you make a plan that would work better than the government we have here? I figured since you all can whine so well you might as well do something constructive with your time rather than bitch about things that you aren't going to change. Lets say make it for a few hundred million people? one that would be a perfect utopia...

oh p.s. it has top benefit everyone in the nation and so therefor you obviously cant have taxes or anything that people would complain about because their life isn't damn good enough

EDIT: What I'm trying to show you all is that if you would put aside the flamefests or stupid little posts about how you hate such a certain thing and acutally have real disussions on this forum I really think that you could be able to change things... there are 116,500 users registered at anandtech forums, what people don't see is the ability to change things so instead they bitch about everything which is why i brought up the topic. I think that if people took this stupid idea of mine seriously maybe we could get somewhere and stop bitching about who hates who and who does not like who is currently lying.

thats just my 2 cents, of course this probably will not work untell 95% of the people mature here but you know, maybe I can get a few to see the light. Who knows...

get rid of politician as a profession and actually have regular people making decisions. the easiest way to do this is to make everyone only get one term. the current way makes it so that the moment someone is elected they are running for reelection instead of getting things done. short of me being king that's what first thing that comes to mind.

I have to agree. Make it so judges aren't appointed for life, senators can only have X number of terms. And being the president is a 6 year one shot deal. The population of the US (including me) all have to wake up and realize that we need taxes to fund education, police, fire depts, sanitation, etc. And we need to figure out how to eliminate all of the loopholes in the current tax system.
Our nation is nowhere nearly admired as it was 10 years ago, dubya aside. We are proceeding the same way we did in colonial days with our 'manifest destiny' and it outrages other nations, and rightfully so. We do not have the authority to go somewhere and say "You're going to be a democracy", or if we do decide to do it, we have to do it 100%. Are the deaths in Darfur any less brutal than those under Saddam Hussein?
There is no simple answer, and honestly, trying to limit terms and such would have to be a trial by fire. Noone would really know the outcome. But most importantly, I think ALL politicians need to realize that we, the citizens are their boss, we elected them, we can subsequently fire them. And I don't even think the voters realize that fully.

Moth-ball the resident bureaucracy in Washington DC* and force the politicians/representatives to reside in their own states so that their constituents actually have access to them more often than every 2 & 6 years. And while we're at it, have the states pick up the bill for their salaries/expenses w/ their state comptroller in charge of oversight. ? in other words, separate the power-hungry freeloaders from the ones who actually want the best for the people they represent.

* honestly, is there any reason why in this day and age of hyper-communication that these pigs really need to travel thousands of miles away from their home-states (out of reach/sight) in order to do their business?!

How about requiring all appointed judges to be on the ballot every 4 years or 2 years for a vote of confidence. If they make too many bonehead decisions they can be kicked out. If it is justified haveing term limits for the president, why not Supreme Court judges too. After 8 years make them retire and find someone else.

And limits on how much anybody can contribute to a political organization. It shouldn't be any higher then the amount an average joe can afford. Not only would that eliminate the special interest groups, but it would be that much less propaganda we'd have to listen too.

I think that's a good idea, but I think the term should be longer....8 years sounds good.

Edit: After thinking about it a bit, 10 years, that way the judges could outlast a President.

Now there is an idea I can sink my teeth into. I'd just add term limits to everyone in government, except appointees because if they are doing their job and can please many differant admins then they can keep their job.

Get rid of special interests/corporations funding campaigns. Make it where everyone that runs only gets X dollars (same amount) to run with and cannot use any more than that.

More true debate. Get rid of this getting the debate questions before you have the debate. If you can't think on your feet and come up with a good answer than you shouldn't be running the government.

Two four-year terms sounds better to me than one long six-year term. The people can kick the guy out sooner and he has a reason to behave for at least the first four years.

Higher court judges being appointed for life is a very good approach in my view. You don't want your judges, of all people, being beholden to special interest groups to raise election funds or even having to curry favour with the public in order to keep their position. Make the process of getting in extremely difficult and then put some trust in 'em. Come on guys, a new high court judge after 8 years? Like being a lawyer isn't enough of a cash and power grab as it is?

We get paid a lot more if we have dependants.

You have a point when my lil brother got out of the navy he went to work for Northrup Grumman (subdivision thereof that I can't remember) and that's exactly what he does. They fly him around the world to go on the ships and "install" software when all he really does is tell the sailors how to do it.
